I have an iPhone 5c and an iPad 2. I am considering an iPhone 6 big as a replacement for both. Do you think it's enough, or is it an insufficient replacement for the iPad? It has more capacity, but it is substantially smaller. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| I have an iPad Air and I use it for a lot of writing, so the iPhone 6 Plus wouldn't work for me. It's just a bit too small for typing. But it is, for me personally, quite a bit too big to carry around as a phone. I have the iPhone 6, it's just about the perfect size. I can fit it in my shirt pocket or front pants pocket easily. The 6 Plus is too big for my shirt pocket, and I would worry about bending it having it in my pants pocket, which means it would come out and get set on the counter or table, which means sooner or later I'd leave it or it would get swiped. The 6 Plus is great if you wear cargo pants or plan to put it in a bag. Its great for content consumption, but it cannot compete with the iPad for content creation. |

I have the 6 plus and the iPad Air also. I use the iPad if I have it with me, for practically everything. I don't carry it around daily though, so the phone is an acceptable substitute.
The phone is better for calls, music, taking pictures, texting, etc. but I prefer the iPad for web browsing, editing photos, reading, watching videos, etc. I travel a lot, and the iPad is awesome for travelling. |

This is actually my plan.
I have an iPad Mini (first gen) that I'm giving to my 10 year old daughter. I have an iPhone 5s right now, as well. I'm replacing both with an iPhone 6+ 128gb (on wait for the size, should be in this weekend). My wife will upgrade from her iPhone 5 to my 5s. It's a win-win. I dislike the full size iPad size, the Mini was a good size, and the 6+ will be the best of both worlds for me. |

The way I see it, the 6+ is still an easy to carry device. All the iPads are not as easy to tote.
Ignoring that I have tons of other technology at home, I carry the iPhone 6+ (which replaced a 4S three weeks ago) 13 hours a day. When it's my personal time at home, I use my Mac MIni. I fucking hate typing on a touch screen. I get ~60 wpm on my phone, ~150wpm on a real keyboard. I even do ~90wpm when I'm drunk on a good short stroke. I'm surely not replacing my real computer time with a tablet. The iPhone 6+ is just a great intermediate from when I'm not at home. |

I don't see that happening with a 6+. Make mine a 6 with an iPad Air on the side, or maybe a iPad Mini 2 to save a few dollars. |

Coincidently, I have the same set up as OP.. iPad 2 and iPhone 5C. Rather than upgrade my iPad, I recently bought the iPhone 6Plus. Am keeping the 5C to carry when I'm hiking or just want a smaller phone. Mostly, I use the 6 Plus as a replacement for the iPad. That said, while it performs every bit as well; perhaps a bit better because of its data plan, I still tend to prefer the iPad for routine usage. It is partially because of the screen size, and partially because of many years use with the iPad.. (comfort level).

Even with a "tough" case, it fits just fine. If you are under 25 and are forced to wear skinny jeans, that's not my fault. |

I like the size of the 6+, and don't have any problems carrying it.
It is not a replacement for the iPad for me. Going against practically everyone else...I'd be happier with a larger iPad. I'd love a thinner, larger screen...I'm thinking 15"-17". Fill up the rest of that space with battery, and I'd be good. I rarely turn on my desktop anymore. |

I've got a 6+ and its no replacement for a tablet. It'll do if you are out and about, but the screen is still too small for me to really be comfortable surfing with it. Thats said my near vision has been going last couple years an I have to wear reading glasses.

I have a 6 Plus, iPad2 and laptop. At home they all get used depending on what I'm doing at the time.
I do more of my ebook reading on the 6+, I use the iPad mostly for Netflix and some games. For surfing it's my laptop. That said my next trip I plan to take nothing but my 6+ |

Mine fits in all my shirt pockets just fine, and I like the battery life. Ymmv. |
