The original 90s stuff was pretty good and I liked Corgan's one-off solo record. He is a really talented musician.

Somewhere at some point, I was told that the band name just means "great tits".

Always wondered if that was true but never bothered to look.

Edit- post above me leads me to believe that may be the case.

I guess I will have to check it out. Melon Collie and The Infinite Sadness was their best.

Still never heard of them - I'm more of an Andre Previn kind of guy (but I guess in GD that doesn't mean much)...

They were innovative in the early 90's.   I liked Gish and the following two albums.  Though the lead singers voice was always terrible.

And of course, D'Arcy went from this-

Billy Corgan, regarding the album Mary Star Of The Sea, which he produced:

Recently, some concerns have come to light regarding the 'sound' of the album, and there seems to be confusion about whether or not there is a problem, which is understandable in the warm 'digital' age. So from my mouth to your ear, here's the deal: We set out to make the loudest ****ing rock and roll album that was humanly possible. No detail was too small, and by that I mean that everything, and I mean everything on the album is distorted by yours truly. I became obsessed by the sound of the great mono albums of the sixties, whether it be Dusty Springfield, The Walker Brothers, The Stones, The Who, The Kinks, etc. and their compressed excitement. so if our album is blowing up your speakers or making your dog cry, I can't say I'm sorry, but I do apologize for any worries this may have caused. Mary Star of the Sea uses everything but the kitchen sink in the analog or digital domain to push the sound of Zwan past the blur into something that feels fresh and exciting, and most importantly, LOUD at any volume.
So crank it up, and sit back and enjoy what it sounds like for us on stage in the overdriven glory.

I refuse to listen to him because of his misguided campaign to eliminate dynamic range in recorded music. Dynamics are the heart and soul of music.

there older stuff, had some awesome highlights with spots of just weird. for the most part I dig it. Stuff like Cherub Rock, Pissant, the whole Simese dream album was pretty fuckin awesome., as was the first CD of Mellon Collie and the Infinate Sadness... FUCK YOU (an ode to no one) fucking rules.

but, growing up in the 90's i love the sound of nasty crunchy guitars, and random noises.

the new stuff. just boring, haven't heard the new album but the last one was just... meh.

guess I'll have to give the new one a listen.

I've always enjoyed them.  I mean as much as you can enjoy dismal, melon collie, doom and gloom music.

I like Billy Corgan in his interviews, seems unusually level-headed and down to earth.

I like just about any 90's grunge/rock band. That was my heyday music. Of course, back then I preferred Pantera, Slayer, White Zombie, etc, but the 90's alternative shit was great stuff as well.

Billy Corgan is a very diverse song writer. I can say I like, even love much of his work and a lot of it makes me go what the fuck.

I dig his anti-Obama song, but he hasn't released it as a studio track

So buy the latest album that Corrigan has put out as The Smashing Pumpkins  released 2 days ago and let us know.  Personally Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness are the only Album of theirs I own.

Other than owning "Siamese Dream" and "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness," I was never a huge Pumpkins fan.  But thanks to the iPod I've really grown to appreciate their stuff more, with an especial appreciation for Jimmy Chamberlin's drumming.  Fortunately, in recent years it looks like he's risen above his past substance issues.

Chamberlin is just a force on "Cherub Rock" and "Muzzle."

The Wold is a Vampireeeeeeeeeeee!!!

God, I fucking hate that song. Not hate, just still recovering from it being overplayed almost 20 years ago.

Saw them live once, they put on a good show, caught an interview with Coragan on Jason Ellis's show and found him to be pretty smart, funny and entertaining.

Interesting to find out he isn't a lockstep liberal and not too fond of our current president.

Yuck.

Billy Corrigan's voice makes me want to kick puppies and yell at old people. It makes their otherwise-kickass music unlistenable to me.
