Since the tech forums are slow...
Ok guys, looking to change my 8.2" 300 BLK to a 7.5" 5.56 gun. I'm changing the stock set up to make it more compact. What I was looking for was advice on the rail and muzzle device setup. I have a can but I'm not sure I want to run one on this gun. How would the KX5 look with a NSR of 9" length? I currently have a 7" NSR on the gun. Other ideas, suggestions, etc. are welcome. Would anything be safe to shoot without ears at that length for a limited period of time (ie emergency?) |

Especially due to the cost for me and where I am in life. And I'm not looking to be shooting past 100 yards with this. Realistically it would be closer if ever needed. |

Shooting that without ears is going to suck but it's better than being dead, what stock are you thinking about? LWRC UCIW. Good stock choice I have one on my 10.5" SBR. I got to test and write a review on the NEA CSS. I wouldn't every buy one. Especially with the LWRC being 1/3 or so the price and being able to retain a standard BCG. |

Get a can for it, then don't have to worry about sound issues! I'd just use my 7.62 SDN-6 for now. But you live in PA. You know we can't drive around with loaded rifles. Yes, I know a SBR falls into the definition of "firearm" and yes I know we are issued a License to Carry Firearms. But you could still be charged under the game code and while it DOES make an exemption for "firearms" which a SBR falls under, I don't want to be the first person to litigate it. |

Still respectable. ETA although IMO 10.5" would be a better choice, |
| I've had a 7.5" 5.56, and a 10.5, and an 11.5, and man, the 7.5, even with a KX3, was abusive to shoot. That said, if you're going to do an unsuppressed 7.5" gun, the KX pig type muzzle device was the best at mitigating the blast for the shooter in my experience, so I think you're on the right track there. |

That's what I figured. At least it would funnel the blast away as best as something could... |

Has anyone tried loading .223 with pistol powders to help eliminate some of the flash on 7.5" guns? Or is there too much pressure. I think you would have a hard time getting the gun to run based on my experience with 300 Blackout. There just wouldn't be enough volume at the right pressure to work the action. In the Blackout, you use heavy bullets to reduce acceleration and increase dwell time and pressure. I don't think you could stuff heavy enough bullets into a 5.56 to do the same since 300s barely run with less than 200 grain bullets. |
