Folks, great members of the arfcom hive, I implore you to consider the following:
I under-appreciated my mom in my hooligan years. I think the world of her and my young boys adore her. If I could do it all over again, I would cause less trouble and make her more proud. Anything to have her around for infinity. My mom was born in 1956. Since turning 16, she's had only major holidays off (in 59 years, she's maybe only relaxed 200 days, pretty sad by modern standards). After I was born, she decided to be a stay at home mom and tried to earn extra money by taking in neighborhood kids. 30+ years later she's still doing it as a state licensed in-home family day care center. She's a second mother to the kids that she cares for and she wouldn't trade it for the world. She has scoliosis and her condition will eventually prevent her from doing what she loves. The sad truth is, a few more degrees of degradation and she will lose control of her bowels. I only wish I had what was needed to provide for her. Add to this - my father: diabetic, kidney failure (<5% function, dialysis for the last 4 years), just had a below the knee amputation. He too was born in 1956. My mother's life, as a woman in her late 50s, is a selfless one and needs to be less burdensome. I'd like to set something up for a "special day" for my mom as she's more than deserving. But, I don't know where to start. I was thinking the local news station and see where that got me. However, I know the power of arfcom transcends all traditional channels. |
