I have an Uno board, the Adafruit motor shield so I can control motors and servos, and tons of sensors - accelerometers, strain gauges, temp sensors, flex sensors, an ultrasonic range finder (short range though, like under 6 feet)...basically anything that exists. One I have in mind is the Cat Tantalizer. I'd attach the food bowl to an arm controlled by motors and put the range finder over it. When it's not feeding time, the range finder will cause the food bowl to retract into a cage when the cat approaches it. The when he walks away it would pop back out. The approach range could vary randomly so he could get oh so close before it's taken away. Another idea is to hook up some of the accelerometers to my bicycle so whenever I slow down a red led comes on in the back. Kinda boring, which is why I'm looking for ideas. Do your worst. |

Cameras and/or motion sensors with wireless connectivity.
ETA: You have a motor shield, so the above won't happen. You could do a remote controlled car or something... I'm still in raspberry pi land myself. I have a vpn server configured, but I need to load the certificates to my pc. I hope to have it tweaked and running this weekend. |

Make me some error sensing for my treadmill automated dillon 1050.
An ultrasonic sensor as an input in the priming position. To detect if brass is in that position or not. If it goes X number of seconds without a piece of brass being in that position, it means the casefeeder is empty or got jammed up. That would be pretty easy program to write. Have the board control a relay to cut off power to the treadmill motor if any of a number of different conditions are met, including that one. |

Alright, after three days of no replies I assumed this thread was dead so I never came back. My mistake. What I ended up doing was using light dependent resistors to control a photovoltaic cell mounted on a servo. The pc follows the sun and increases efficiency by 30% over a stationary south facing position. This is a useful device for any remote device or sensor powered by the sun - either you get 30% more power, or you can reduce the size and cost of your pc. Total cost with Aruino uno was about $50. The code could be adapted to be an area denial weapon against anyone carrying a flashlight.  Andy's idea wouldn't be too hard. Sensor selection would be the most important part. It might be easier to put a sensor in/on the feed tube though. |

I bought one for $10 bucks on ebay to do this... I have bought the switches but waiting on displays and temp probe.

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of arduino stuff carried locally in San Antonio. Intertex and Hobbytown have pretty much everything the internet has, and for competitive prices. My first arduino project was a kill switch for my daughters barbie jeep. I wired in a potentiometer that allowed me to dial out the distance I wanted her to be able to go, then, the arduino would poll the 'tower' to see if she exceeded the distance.
Love those little computers . |

LOL, nah, if she is old enough to drive, she is old enough to decide how far. It was fun watching her hit the limit though, and jump out and turn the car around by hand then push it till the LED glowed. Pavlovian almost. |
