No mushrooming?  Can't use that for self defense.

What is the material? And what is the diameter of that round?

Given the description above of the round and the armor thickness, the projectile is 3" in diameter, and the material is the armor of a Tiger II.

ETA:  Might be a Tiger.  Looking at the photo it looks closer to 120mm, rather than the 152 stated at the link.

Given that a 17 lber with regular AP apparently was rated to penetrate 118 mm of armor @ 500 yards and 89 mm of armor @ 2000 yards, I'm guessing it is somewhere north of 89 mm thick.

ETA: If it was a Tiger II, armor ranged from 80mm to 180mm (ignoring top armor as that was not likely shot at using an AT gun).

Should have went with the 20" the 14.5" just sacrifice to much velocity.

Can you imagine the pucker factor if you were in the tank at the time?

I'd imagine they were too busy pulling chunks of steel out of their body from all the spall that would have caused.

Probably took out 1-2 tanks before getting hit.
Real question

Firefly, TD, or anti tank gun.
17lb APS round is 10.18" long at least 1/2 to 3/5 of it is still in the armor, so I would guess 5-6" armor 127mm-152mm, which would be too thick for a Tiger, "unless it is the gun mantlet at 120mm +" maybe a Tiger II or TD?
