You talking about the "smile.amazon" part? If so, that just directs you to an Amazon page where a portion of each purchase goes to a charity. Quoted:

That's a pretty sweet affiliate link. Covert spam is best spam. You talking about the "smile.amazon" part? If so, that just directs you to an Amazon page where a portion of each purchase goes to a charity. The ref= part is what usually gives someone a cut of the sale with amazon links. After that is an ID that is specific to the user so amazon can track their affiliate links. The smile part may change how it works.. I didn't notice that at first. |

Zero interest in that. Guess I'm boring. It's curious to me, but in my hands I see it going the way of an Android tablet. A neat toy, but unable to wedge itself into my life as a useful tool, since it doesn't do what the Windows 8 tab will do, and it's less feature-rich than my phone while being less useful. |

Review sort of pans it: http://www.askmen.com/news/tech/amazon-echo.html |

A review that hasn't acutally used/seen it? |

Quoted: Seems neat for home automation and the like. But I imagine Siri and Google Now will be able to do the same stuff if home automation ever really takes off. Still I'm drawn to cool shit like this. For years I've wanted to have a home security system that was voice activated... "System, sound board ships and on full kits" "Acknowledged, setting maximum defenses" Metal shutters lower over the windows and doors, hidden gun safes open to reveal loaded firearms ready to go, etc :-) |
