Last Thursday I mistakenly left one of our cars unlocked in front of our house. At 8pm some petty thieves show up and steal some loose change out of the console. The surveillance camera caught it, although the video quality is too poor to really be useful. However, I do think that the video is instructive about how these scumbags operate.
They didn't break anything, they didn't use the car as a toilet, and they made sure to close the doors so that the rain didn't get in. So all in all, just a minor annoyance and a reminder to make sure that the car is locked. |

OP, just curious why you have the cameras and in that location if they cant record anything useable? Legitimate question, not trolling. It's really the only place that I can put them unless I get into trenching and putting up poles. The one that took this video is on the front of the house. It does a better job of seeing people coming onto my lawn and approaching the house. And the daylight quality is much better as well. In this instance it let me know what time the thieving took place and showed that it was two scumbags, so it does have some value. |

Why do you not have a camera dedicated to where you park your vehicle(s)? You should have at least one varifocal camera zoomed right in on it, so it fills 3/4 of the entire frame.
Vehicles are one of the most common targets for theft and vandalism. You're underutilizing your CCTV system. |

| They took anything of value which luckily was only spare change. A purse, phone, amp, or gun would have been swiped if they had been in there. If they found the spare key hidden under the floor mat you would be shopping for a new car right now. Petty turns into Grand Theft according to circumstance, not a level of honesty. |

We have incidents like this all the time in my jurisdiction . I hope you called the police, they may have other cases up and down your street where more was taken and your video might give them an idea of who to look at.
They close the door all the way because that is how the police catch on to people being in the area. I see cracked doors in a neighborhood and know that something is up, and have caught several groups because I knew to start looking around. |
