I talked to a buddy of mine this weekend and heard an interesting story.  He went to the hospital for an inpatient procedure. The nurses were asking him all the normal questions and then he said it got odds. The nurse asked him if he had a safe place to go afterwards.  Then asked him if he ever felt anxious. Did he ever feel hopeless, had he lost interest in  hobbies and work, could he ever not stop worrying.
He asked me about it and I basically said wtf.  Is this normal now days?  I know it is the hospital screening for  domestic violence and people who are suicidal but to what end. If he would have answered he was hopeless or something what would they do?  Not let him leave without meeting with a psych?  Just an odd story.  This was in rural wa st if that matters

What procedure?  Assuming it's an elective/cosmetic procedure they maybe Asking due to the concern  of body dysmorphic disorder or depression related to it.  Folks with that issue tend to have lots of cosmetic stuff done.

It's pretty normal. They typically ask the really dumbed down versions. Do you have any thoughts of hurting yourself or others? Is anyone hurting you at home, do you feel safe?

Some may just be getting better at the questioning.

Treat nurses like you do the police. If it's not pertinent to the situation keep your mouth shut.

Did you feel ArfCom was a safe place to post this? Does the site ever make you feel anxious, hopeless, or make you lose interest in work? Does this worry you?

Its a medical procedure.

He's worried because he takes a low dose of something for anxiety. That was already in his records so he answered yes to the do you get anxious question.  Now he's worried  he's gonna end up on a list.  I told him I think if there was a problem they would have talked to him more before releasing him.  But what the heck do I know.

I went in for a hernia OP about 6 years ago.

The nurse in preop, asked the Ol'lady to leave the room, and proceeded to ask me if I felt physically abused at home.

Now, I'm 6'3" and around #260. She's 5'2" and about a buck twenty.

I had to tell her to get the fuck outta the room as my gut was already splittin.

Mystery solved - hell yeah he was anxious, if you don't crap yourself to death the night before, sign this in case we accidentally punch the camera through your colon.

Did he tell them he felt completely drained?  Deep down, he had this void that he had never had before.  Just an empty shell...

I was in the ER to be checked after a car wreck.
Nurse: "Do you feel threatened or in danger at home"?
Me: "Wait. What"?
Nurse: "DO YOU feel threatned or in danger at home"?
Me: "What's wrong with you? I'm here for a car wreck"
Nurse: "I gots to ask. You gots to answer"
Me: "Shove it. Is there a doctor here"?
Nurse: "I'll just mark that down as 'no'..."

I'm not teasing him on that one.  He's a big guy.  I don't want to get whooped.

Thanks everyone.  I feel better now about telling him not to worry about it.  I also  am now probably going to have to give him a bad time about  being "bummed"  out
