It looks ok, but it's really nothing special, other than a bubba'ing done almost tastefully. It looks a hell of a lot better than they do normally. Doesn't look bubba'd to me. They took a $100, really ugly, extremely common communist rifle and made it something I think looks awful good. It's not like Mosins are rare, beautifully made pieces of history or anything. There are millions of them. |

Best looking one I have seen. As long as the owner realizes it is still a $100 dollar gun. He made it for his dad as a gift, don't think he is worried too much about resale value Well now I like it even more. Haters gonna hate, that is good work and looks nice. If my kid did that and gave it to me I would A: Shoot the fuck out of it. B: Cherish it forever. |

Mosin Nagants look better in Mil Spec.
Mine was an excellent condition one that was made mid war, but skipped all the abuse, somehow. The stock was petrified white pine(!?) or something equally ridiculous, with an alcohol based shellac surface finish, flaking off in my hands. I redid the alcohol based finish. It wore right off in my hands again. I gave up on original finish material. I stripped and redid the finish as an exact looking duplicate with furniture stain and spar varnish. Now it looks original with a red-brown finish, except it is durable and waterproof. I managed to preserve all purple stock stamps and cartouches, too. The sporter in the pic up top is fine, IF you want your old cheap surplus rifle to look like a mass produced commercially sporterized 1950's or 60's deer rifle. I don't. I wouldn't sporterize my Garand, Enfields, or Mausers either. My Springfield is original. The best thing anyone can definately say about OP's pic is the walnut stock looks nice. But I still don't like it. Which means I'm a bad person.

If they had relocated the bolt handle back further on the bolt it would have dramatically improved
the looks of the rifle. Very nice job though. I first saw a Mosin with a relocated bolt handle in Finland, couldn't believe how it improved the rifles looks. Had one done and love it...... |

Thousands of Krags, Springfields, Enfields were similarly butchered. May still have sentimental value, but collectible value is nil. If it was done as gift, ok, but if you want it as a shooter, ok, bad weather hunting gun, ok. Want to make money project = fail. |
