[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Tree Trimmers vs Neighbor (Page 1 of 2)

Sitting at home at the moment watching my neighbor ague with the tree trimming service I hired to do some tree work at my property.
I hired the service to take out a few trees and stumps, plus trim two trees on my property line. The two trees are on the east side of my property and do not provide my yard any shade. But they provide perfect afternoon shade for my neighbor. Only problem is the trees are overdue for a trimming and have already had several large branches break off and fall into my neighbor's yard. Some of the branches have fallen to the ground, some are "stuck" and waiting for a good storm to bring them down. I already gave my neighbor a heads up that I was having the trees trimmed and cut back. She told me she didn't want her "side" touched. She is only a renter and I am friends with the home owner. So this morning the tree service showed up and has begun the job. She's already been out twice telling them what "she" wants done and how they should do their job. I've talked with the job supervisor and told him to ignore her and remember who is paying them. He is polite and won't say anything bad about her, but understands. I think he's been in this situation before. Time to get some more coffee and watch the show.

Damn. She was supposed to goto work. She's been out there a third time bugging them and just watching. The tree guys are acting like they don't speak English now.
She's normally a nice lady and has been a decent neighbor over the years. Leaves me alone, is quiet and keeps to herself. I'm waiting for her to chain herself to the fence, or something. Good thing she can't get to the tree trunk or else she would chain herself to that. |

My neighbor wants my huge maple in my front yard cut down completely, even said so Her: "We get too many leaves on our side of the fence, and I hate the squirrels that live in that tree." Me: "O.K. so what do you want me to do about it (snicker)?" Her: "Well, can we trim the branches on our side of the fence?" Me: "Yep, that's your right." Her: "O.k." Me: "Are we good then?" Her: "Well, if it were up to me I'd just cut the tree down completely!!!" Me: "Good thing it's not up to you then Her: Me: ![]() |

So she's renting the property and the trees aren't even on that property she has no grounds for a dispute. Curious if she is at least able to articulate some sort of feasible argument or is it just "I want"? Has she started making threats yet? No, she won't make any threats. She just likes the shade the trees provide. She is a smoker and as part of the rental agreement she isn't supposed to smoke inside the house. Her and her boyfriend spend their evening hours on the back porch smoking and drinking beer. The porch is covered, but the trees provide nice shade for the hot summers here. I've told her the branches are a safety hazard for her and her grandkids and need to be thinned out (for the little children ). Her definition of "thinned out" is different than that of mine and the tree guys I guess. I'm not going to have a lopsided tree for her benefit.

Quoted: So, the tree guys just left. Now is the time things will get ugly. The neighbor lady was cussing at them up and down and then went inside her house in a crying fit. I spoke with the job foreman before they left. Poor guy took an earful. I don't think she'll be talking with me anytime soon. The tree guys did leave her a little shade for next year: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/Brauer/Forest/tree1.jpg *Tree had about 87% more canopy beforehand. ![]() |

Quoted: I'm not a tree guy and don't know anything about it. But that tree looks hideous |
| Here there are a lot of folks that have cottonwood trees that they plant for windbreaks. Those things will grow over 100 feet tall if you let them. But you can chop them down at whatever height you want the branches to grow and they will recover just fine. So if you want what normally happens 70 feet up in the air to happen 15 feet up, you can chop them down at the 15 foot mark and they'll just start growing new branches. Kinda funny the first time you see someone with a line of 15 foot empty stumps along a fenceline. |

Quoted: Trees on your property ???? She has no side. gd This, plus she's a renter over there? I would get in her face and tell her to leave them alone. You are paying them to work on your property. I had an old geezer next door for 20 years that was like that. He would stand on the edge of the property watching me or watch my kids out his window and yell at them. He would go out during snow strorms and yell about where I was blowing snow. That old fuck died and I don't miss the bastage. If I knew where he was planted I would go piss on his grave. |

The tree had issues prior to their "hack" job. As you can see from the picture, it has two trunks growing out of one stump. Then, look at the power lines in the picture background. The power company comes by every few years and whacks on any tree within 50 feet of their lines. The left side of the tree had been cut several years prior. The tree guys "fixed" another tree the power company whacked on (not in the picture). They also removed a tree that folded over due to the power company's pruning.
This tree did look much better prior to today. But it had several broken large branches in the canopy. I neglected it for a few years, so its my fault. But, I can only see the tree from my garage and don't really care how it looks. It probably would have been cheaper to remove it than have it "trimmed". But, knowing the tree's history ever winter, I'm not too worried about it growing back next spring and looking normal. My main concern was it loosing one of those broken limbs and hitting the neighbor, her family or the house. And the company that did the job are professional and licensed arborists. Yep, I didn't expect the tree to get this hacked up, but I'm not a professional tree guy and I'll defer to their expertise. |
