ok my stepdads computer is infested with malware to the point of being damn near unusable.

its an older compaq running vista.

it appears it should have had a recovery partition but its no longer there, a few years back he took it to a local shop who i suspect swapped his hard drive. i found someone elses data in a hidden folder( tax records and such)

anyways i need to wipe the damn thing and start over from scratch for him.

i have backed up his stuff he wants to keep and am ready to format and reinstall, except i dont have a restore disc or partition to go off of.

i am no stranger to restoring but normally have the software available.

does vista have a way to make a restore disc or a way to recover the partition?(it may be a different drive though)

Any possibility of buying a cheaper or mid range pc, copying his files off of it, and skipping the pain, misery, and heartache of fixing an older slow (in comparison) pc?
