I work from home...so at 3:30pm today my doorbell rings.  Not uncommon, I get deliveries regularly, and I am expecting several over the next few weeks.  Walk to the door in my Cabella's cammo hoodie and pants, open it expecting to sign for a package and I'm greeted by 2 Solicitors.  I ask them how can I help.  They state they are here to talk about AT&T service (they didn't state land, cell, or uverse).  I looked at the male solicitor intently in the eyes and told him that I wasn't interested, I made a gesture like a circle and stated there is no soliciting in this neighborhood and turned to walk away.

The female then spoke, she said they weren't soliciting, they were just doing follow ups with current customers.  I turned back around and looked at her, dead in the eye, and said that I am not now, nor have I ever been a customer of AT&T.  So if they want to come in and sit in my office at my conference phone we can conference in their regional supervisor and have a discussion on business ethics...or they could get in their car and leave the entire neighborhood.  They chose option #2, and I watched while they drove out of my sight.

Was I an asshole?

Did they look like they even knew anything about phones? You may have been cased for a robbery to see if you are home.

Nice.  I would had said: "Do you want to say hello to my little friend?"

At least you got to talk to someone face to face. I only get phone calls from some foreign asshole in a call center using a prerecorded soundboard trying to pretend to be a live person on the line.

I'm a solicitor, but I get reactions like yours every now and then. Doesn't bother me because it's all numbers based.

Yea, they were early 20'something, white, seemingly educated by their vocabulary used in their introduction.  Not cased...but harassed.

lol, no.

Why did you answer the door after you saw it was unknown, uninvited persons?

Did they see you were armed?  You were armed, right?

Would you mind expressing your desire to be a solicitor in a response, and some of your thoughts?  I understand that you may have no desire to do it and you are just doing a job that pays...but it would be nice to hear from someone on the 'other side'.

ETA:  You'll receive no negative replies from myself, only true questions.  I'm generally curious.

I'm concealed.  If I answered without a shirt they would have saw, but I wear a snuggly hoodie around the house during the day.  I'z be comfortable!

ETA:  Oh, and I didn't even look through the peephole because I 'assumed' it was a delivery.  You know what they say about assuming.

I'm on the edge of my seat.

Exactly where does the camo hoodie and pants come into play here?

"Am I an A-hole?"  If you have to ask, the answer is always "yes."  Welcome to the club.  That's what it sometimes takes, these days.

I've been super polite.  I've also tried being a sarcastic monster.  I've even tried blunt honesty with them.  I've been every which-a-way.

Usually, NOTHING works.

They should have counted themselves lucky you didn't dump a mag of 100%  tracer at them.

I work as a independent contractor for a General contractor primarily doing insurance recovery on residential. At the end of the day, I could sit on my couch all day hoping the phone rings to give me business or I can go out and physically earn it much faster. I worked 6 months out of the year last year and made a good chunk of change that carried me Well into the next season comfortably.  There's few jobs I've run across that offer me the same freedom and financial opportunity. Ideally I'd rather be the marketing face of a much larger corporation and sent all over the globe but no one has allowed me worthy of such a position so for now, it's Knock Knock.
