I did a fair amount of snipe hunting when I was a kid in the boy scouts.  Great fun!  Anyone know a good spot to snipe hunt these days?  Boy I'd love to bag some snipes this Fall!

And just how the fuck do you think this is going to play out ON THE FUCKING INTERNET?

Do you think we're all going to pack up and meet you somewhere for a snipe hunt?

This is fucking retarded.

My family was always active naturalist and  Bird watchers. I always found the premise of a snipe hunt silly as I had actually seen many snipe as a kid. Hell, Virginia has a season if I am not mistaken.

They all moved out of the woods and into the urban setting (usually the seedier parts of town).  Get yourself a dog whistle and sack, then go for a walk while blowing the whistle.  I guarantee you that you will catch your snipe.

The season is almost half over.  The bag limit is eight, and you have to use steel shot.  Stick to marshy areas, and wet grassland.  Other than that, I got nothing.

I don't know why, but snipe just don't taste as good as quail or grouse.  Still fun shooting though.

We were banned from snipe hunting after a couple Webelos came back with an Opossum they beat to death with a stick thinking it was a snipe.
We were also banned from leaving Webelos unsupervised.

Find a river bottom and use a fast swinging shotgun.  Those birds are fast and turn quickly.

Hunting

Camouflage may enable snipe to remain undetected by hunters in marshland. If the snipe flies, hunters have difficulty estimating a correct aiming lead for the bird's erratic flight pattern. The difficulties involved in hunting snipe gave rise to the term “sniper”, referring to a skilled anti-personnel military sharpshooter.

"Going on a snipe hunt" is a phrase suggesting a fool's errand, or an impossible task. It is often used as a practical joke upon campers, and those unfamiliar with hunting, by those more experienced Per Wiki

If I printed those manuals, I would seriously mess with people.
Leprechaun season would be jan 1st through jan 20th
Unicorns are year round.
Mermaids are migratory.  Season will vary by year.

I'm trying to find a link to the ranch in Texas where you can snipe hunt from a helicopter.  Anyone have that link?

When I was in Webelos, they really sold snipe hunting on our first weekend camping trip.  I actually believed it up until some of the Boy Scouts along for the trip with us tried to convince me of the "bicentennial snipe" with red, white, and blue feathers on it's chest.

...at that point it fell away like Santa Clause.
