I have a question about vision requirements for a CDL. I recently applied for a job that will require a class b or c cdl and am curious if the vision requirements are any different than for a regular license. I am half blind, no vision in my left eye and have a restriction requiring mirrors on my car(which all cars have, lol). Would this be any different for the CDL. Thanks.

I remember taking eye test, but no idea what they would do if blind in one eye.

in this day i cant imagine it being a disqualifier

Depends on the Dr. I have been to a couple that a VERY thorough and been to a couple that just want your money so they sign off regardless. Kinda scary considering I drive a 90,000lb vehicle. I have 20/20 but a guy at work can't see for shit and still had his CDL.

I know a guy who is by definition, legally blind and has a CDL.

The rules for CDL health certs have changed a lot. Most recently when I renewed my health card the eye test was stand X feet away from the chart, cover one eye and read the smallest you can, then cover the other. I'm not sure how they will handle one eye blind. Maybe call the DOT doc and ask so you if it disqualifies you, you don't waste your time.

that be a B cdl. While you're at the DMV, get some endorsements, like P, S, HazMat, etc. You'll be glad you did. P and S are easy.
