to make sure Kansas takes the zombie apocalypse seriously, Brownback plans to officially declare October "Zombie Preparedness Month" during a ceremonial event Friday at the Kansas Statehouse.

Zombie Preparedness Month, however, is not actually about planning a defense for viral reincarnate flesh eaters. Instead, Brownback's administration wants to capitalize on pop culture's zombie obsession to raise awareness about disaster planning and response.

Except people in general are far more likely to pay attention to this than they are the standard disaster preparation message. Pop culture being what it is and whatnot.

Face it, most Kansans feel like tornadoes are "old hat" until/unless they've been hit by one.

I understand using Zombies

The CDC has been doing it for years

The theme is fine, it's the timing that is piss-poor.

Meh, so Kansans get a variation of the same message for two months in a row. Maybe some of the slower ones will pick up on it this way.

Which is probably why they are doing this in October, actually.

I love these campaigns.  They have brought far more public interest to preparedness than anything else.

You mean halloween is a bad time of year for zombie stuff?  Not that I celebrate it, but even I can see the obvious connection.

One of the cable TV channels was running a show on prepping for zombies. One character argued the right weapon for self defense was a crowbar since it never runs out of ammo.

The suggested preps involve no firearms at all. Go to the FEMA camp . . .
