So today I go to this shithole electronics store called Frys because in the ad that came out FRIDAY they advertise the Signs DVD on sale for $15.99. I look in the Scifi section, NOTHING. I look in the Drama section, NOTHING. I look in the Horror section, NOTHING. I look for someone working there to help me, NOTHING. Right as I was going to give up, I saw it by the PORN section in what appeared to be an UNMARKED new releases area. I take the thing up to the register, and the idiot there says it is "$19.99" "No, in your ad it says $15.99." I replied. "I have the new ad right here" the dickhead at the register says, "and it is $19.99". "Well why in the hell is there a tag on your display that is $15.99?" I ask. "I need the tag to do a price adjustment then." the dickhead cashier says. I stand there waiting for him to go, but then he says *I* have to go get the tag and bring it to him. WTF??? I get the stupid tag then he makes me follow him over to another shit for brains worker so that he can write up a purchase order. WTF??? After 10 minutes of this bullshit, I get NO APOLOGY so I storm out of the store and look at the original ad and it says: PRICES GOOD FROM JANUARY 24 TO JANUARY 28. WTF! I am never going to that shithole ever again. They put fucked up return items right back on the shelf and don't care. I got burned once before from this and had to stand in the return line that NEVER has less than 15 people waiting. Their customer service is non-existant and so will be my business. |
|
Waht a shame, the original Frys store in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale was the cats ass, a little hole in the wall for tech heads to build their own computers - I remember the store in 1982. Seems like they got big and forgot where they came from now that they are a big chain |
|
Fry's is known for having a huge stock of computer/geek stuff, including all those little adapters and cables that no one else ever has in stock. And their prices are generally quite good, and their sales on things like memory and harddrives can be excellent. BUT... this is at the expense of customer service. And it always has been. Providing good customer service costs money. Most people don't want to pay for it these days, or so they say when they "vote with their dollars" and shop at the cheapest place rather than the place with good customer service. Which is exactly what you did, Imbrog. Your patronage, in your quest for the lowest price, encourages their lack of customer service. TANSTAAFL. -Troy |
|
I think they handled this correctly. By not allowing scurvy low life's to come in and make their own rules and create their own prices they keep the customer quality at a higher level. I for one would rather shop in peace without being exposed to the sleazy pale white underbelly of society. They have Wal-Marts for a reason. Why dont you go there to steal your antigun DVD's? |
| I have shopped there before and I will not go back. Problem I had was they had a sale on a product but didnt mention the product/model number so you are forced to ask one of those "workers" where the sale item is located. Needless to sale they are not helpful. I will spend my money somewhere else. |
| Fry's is one of those stores, you swear you won't return but you keep on going back. I had a good memory there once though, and countless bad memories. This is the one in Fountain Valley. I usually hate the dorks that check the receipt and bag's content at the door. But this one time, I saw a hot ass Asian chick with long hair. Nice body, cute face, and decent height. So she comes over real close to me, and bends over to check whats inside the bag. I could see her cleavage, and I couldn't do anything but to keep swallowing my saliva. Haven't seen her since but hey I might see her again someday. And she's going to be mine! Hehehe. |
| I shop at Fry's all the time. Troy is right on the money (as usual) when he says that they sacrifice cust service for the prices. Most people who work there have no idea what the hell is going on. But if you know exactly what you're after, then you'll be fine. I built the computer i'm using now by buying all the stuff at Frys. Good sale prices on those CPU/motherboard combo deals. |
|
Woohoo, my turn to rant on that steaming pile of shit store. I have been in that store more than I care to remember. Both the Anaheim and Fountain Valley location. I have spent countless thousands there of both my own money and when I use to buy components for the company I worked for building computers. They have good prices, and selection. That is it. ALL the sales people I have ever encountered are blithering fucking idiots. I have helped more customers there than most employees. I can’t even count how many times I would overhear a customer asking a question only to hear the salesman lock up and start drooling. I swear they get all their help from fucking Jerry's Kids. Not to sound racist, but fucking Christ, I have only ever seen 3, count em 3 white people at either of the about mentioned locations. And of those 3, ALL 3 were PWTT (Poor White Trailer Trash). ALL the other employee are either from India, Pakistan, or an undisclosed Asian country. 95% of those people only speak 5% English. I have had to wait for what accumulates to many HOURS for the jagoffs to retrieve product from inside their protective cage. Things such as hard drives, memory, CPU's etc. I now disrespectfully refer to them as MONKEYS IN THE CAGE. Cuz goddamn it, that’s what they are. Buyer bevaryfuckingware, 75% of what you see on the shelves has been returned, re-shrink wrapped and rummaged through. Either it is broke, will break or is missing important shit. Point of my story, IF you MUST go there, make goddam sure you know what you want, where in the store it is, and EXACTLY how much it is BEFORE you step foot in the door. Even armed will all that information, you will most definitely be met with some type of resistance and delayed in some fashion. If you ever THINK of asking for help you would be better served with ingesting a .45 slug from the business end of my Sig P220. Be warned Be wary Be prepared |

I used to shop the shit out of the Frys in San Diego. After me second "experince" with the sales and technical support staff I just learned to play the game. One time I bought all the stuff to build a computer, I put it together and it didn't work. I asked the tech counter for help, they were willing to charge me the going rate to troubleshoot my system. I said screw it, I bought the same stuff I bought and I took it home and did some out of the box troubleshooting. 20 minutes later and I found that I had a bad CPU. I packed up all the stuff and returned it - "I don't want it." I even told them that the CPU was bad. I watched a they put it back on the shelf inside the cage. |

Quoted: I won't go there because they don't allow firearms in the store, INCLUDING LEGAL CCW GUNS. All the Fry's Electronics in the Phoenix area I've seen have signs on the doors prohibiting weapons. Fine; if my gun is prohibited then so is my money. Mike A few months ago the Fry's store at I10 and 60 pulled the "no weapons" sign down. So long as that sign stays down they will enjoy my busines, as they have the best selection of stuff I need for work and play. If I see the sign go back up, then I'll just take my business elsewhere like I used to. |

Fry's customer "service" is notorious. They're frequently actively hostile to customers attempting to return merchandise. The help can range from barely competent to clueless. Basically, you have to go in there with the expectation that the people there will attempt to thwart your buying experience at every turn. If you know _exactly_ what you want, you can out-smart the company and get value for your money. They have some good loss-leader sales. Back in the day they were the techie hangout. Needed a few transistors or some thin net ethernet? Make a run to Fry's. They had everything in mass quantities, and you could get it all without having to make runs to half a dozen different shops. Since then they've started selling mass market stuff, and brought the user service mentality used with a bunch of caffienated engineers who knew what they wanted, dammit, to the consumer sector. |

Quoted: Let me get this straight... You, by your own admission "got burned" there before, and you went back? If you read what I said, I GOT BURNED BY THEIR FUCKED UP RETURNS BACK ON THE SHELF POLICY BY GETTING A SCREWED UP MOTHERBOARD SOMEONE ELSE BROUGHT BACK. Even with all of the bullshit they pull, they cannot replicate the factory seal put on DVDs. |
|
Most of their stuff is refurb or previously (used) returned merchandise (that may be broken, but they put it back on the shelf anyways). Their stuff is garbage. My friend has bought a few "new" laptops there, and EVERY time it had been USED and ALL of the software was already registered by the previous buyer!!! And, if you think that is bad, try returning a PC!!! My friend returned a PC there and he was taken into a private room with the PC (after waiting in a LONG return line) where they INTERROGATED him about the return!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think there is a website http://www.ihatefrys.com |
|
AHHHHH, And I thought I was the only one who hated Fry's. The worse customer service experience I have ever at any store was at the Redondo Beach store. I said I would never go back and haven't been back since. If I were in charge of purchase orders or had a business that did large transactions with companies that sold the same items. I WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN TO EVER, EVER, EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. NEVER AGAIN!! |
|
I learned my lesson about Fry's, and I haven't bought anything there in about 5 years. I've had these websites bookmarked a long time. Caveat Emptor. FRY'S ELECTRONICS SUCKS Over 18 pages of "Experiences at Fry's Electronics", mostly bad. One more thing, at one time there was a website where a guy would scan the weekly newspaper sale ads and post them on the internet. Fry's SUED him and made him stop posting sale ads, because Fry's is too STUPID to realize they were getting FREE advertising. [rolleyes] |

Advertised prices at Fry's are about the best around for some smoking deals. However you have to know the rules of Fry's: * know what you're looking for since they won't be much help * get there early as the great deals go fast * save every scrap of box/UPC symbol/receipt in case something dies * if it isn't advertised, it probably isn't a good deal. * if exchaning, there's much less hassle if they know you're not looking for cash back, but just to exchange product. * know about the "repackaged returns"...the larger handwritten stickers on items that have been returned before. The sticker says it carries the same warranty, but since I started avoiding those, I've had less DOA items. And the upper management is also a bunch of Caliban liberals who think putting a 'no guns' sign on the door makes the store safe. The sign is sometimes missing, but it was there the day after Christmas again. I've sworn off Fry's several times for that alone, but then in a moment of consumer weakness, I find myself once again walking in with the Fry's ad in hand. But today I kept my willpower even with today's deal: Athlon 2000+ XP cpu/ECS mobo for $99 |

Been there, don---------- Anyway my first trip there was worth it, just to find out, yes they really do suck. Was gonna lay down a wad for a new MB and a new processor, but it started getting weird when I tried to check out the return policy first. 1. Finding someone to help. 2. Finding someone to help who speaks English 3. Finding someone to hep who speaks English and knows the policy. 4. Finding out that their policy would only give 2 weeks - in the middle of the holidays - to take it home, get started, put the kid on the airplane, cross my fingers, finish the 'puter off, trouble shoot, tear it down, if necessary, drive the 40 miles back to the store, and go though the first 3 steps all over again. I think I might go there again someday, but not if I could find what I want somewhere else. I'd rather pay 1/3 more to get decent service, and I don't mean Dell. |

We just got a new Fry's here in Las Vegas... and let me tell you it was a fricking event at the grand opening; police directing traffic, people everywhere, you'd have thought a new casino opened what with all the fanfare. I can now understand why. I got some incredible deals there that day, so good that I ended up building myself a new system... top of the line everything and I spent less than $1,000, including a new Canon printer. Sorry, Imbro, but their pricing and selection has my business, regardless of any customer service foibles. |

Fry's totally sucks. On the three occasions I purchased items from the Fremont and Palo Alto stores, I had to take them back. I thought I'd give them a chance, so I returned two more times after the first screw up. The Fremont store was the worst. Their employees consisted of Ethiopians and Chinese, none of whom knew what they were talking about or spoke English. Fvcking zoo. One time I went in and bought two top-of-the-line nics, and when I got home (50 minutes later), it turned out someone had swiped the good cards and replaced them with POS cards, and then sealed the boxes real well so the next guy (me) couldn't tell they had been opened. I'm not saying Fry's employees did it, but with their reputation... Anyway, so I took the cards back and this Ethiopian chick gave me the third degree, accusing me of swapping the cards. So I complained quite loudly, and they finally made me sign a legal affidavit swearing I did not try to cheat them, blah, blah, blah and I got my refund (they had no replacements). The only redeeming factor was the Ethiopian chick was hot and her boobs were hanging out in plain view when she leaned over to check the affidavit I had just completed. Anyway, that place has very few redeeming qualities. They are known to put returns back on the shelf (as did Egghead, in a big way), hoping people won't noticed the item is defective or missing accessories. I don't blame their use of legal affidavits because I know a lot of the local assholes rip them off. But I won't shop there anymore. |
| I hate Fry's. I shopped at the Fremont store three or four times back in 1995-96 and the customer service was awful. Not to mention the fact that you had to wait in line for 30 minutes to check out. I've never gone back. I moved to Austin and they built a store here, but I've never set foot in it and don't intend to. You can get better stuff cheaper on the Internet without all the hassle. |

It seems that if you know a little about electronics/Computers Fry`s rules. If you dont know about electronics/computers frys sucks. Conclusion Do your homework before making a purchase so you dont have to depend on a sales person that may or may not know what he is talking about. The only thing I EVER ask a sales person is where something is located in the store. Dont blame the store because you are as clueless as the teenaged nitwit that works there. I mean really, what do you expect for $6 an hour with the prices as low as they are? |

Knowing about electronics doesn't keep you from waiting 30 minutes in line because Fry's is too cheap to hire more cashiers. Knowing about electronics doesn't keep the cashier from being rude to you every time. Knowing about electronics doesn't stave off the door nazi. Knowing about electronics doesn't keep you from getting non-functioning parts in new boxes. I know enough about electronics that I can shop elsewhere. |

Quoted: They are, in fact, ARIZONA liberals now. Glad we got rid of them. Now they're YOU'RE problem. [;D] What? We almost had their deportation paperwork done, and now you're telling us that we can't send them back? And we were going to sneak our liberal governor into the crowd being deported too! Back to the drawing board! |

heres how frys REALLY SUCKS, at the manhattan beach store in kalif --- a man goes into frys, purchasing a few thousand bucks in computors and elec. stuff, waits in long line near the snacks, candy and drinks, opens and drinks a can of soda. pays for computors items, trys to leave and forgets about open soda can. frys calls cops, frys wants the man arrested, man offers to pay for soda says it wasnt intentional theft as claimed by frys. cops try to convince frys to let the man go and pay for the soda, frys says NO, and forces cops to arrest man for petty theft. ---- heard it from the cop on scene |

Saiga12, that's pretty pathetic. A little common sense would dictate that a man who just paid thousands of dollars for computer stuff isn't trying to steal a 50 cent coke. What's even more ironic is that occasionally Fry's has weekend sales when they give away free cokes and hot dogs. I've had a bunch of problems with Fry's, mostly related to their piss poor customer service and returning DOA items. Here's my main gripe with Fry's... About 8 years ago my bank accidently put my account number on someone elses checks. By the time I caught the error, a few of my checks had bounced, one of them to Fry's. My bank wrote letters to the affected parties and sent copies to me, clearly explaining that I was in no way responsible for the bounced checks and that it was due to a bank error. Fry's resubmitted the check and it cleared the second time. I thought everything was settled until about a year later when I did some Christmas shopping at Fry's and tried to write a check. DECLINED! They wouldn't accept my check and I had to use a credit card. I contacted Fry's corporate office and learned that I was on their list of bad check writers. So I copied the bank letter and sent it to them. They said they'd take care of it but the next time I tried to write a check at Fry's, it was declined again. I went back and forth with Fry's but they would not take me off their bad check list. This was for one check that bounced due to a bank error and then cleared the second time they put it through. I suppose I could continue to shop at Fry's and use a credit card but I refuse to do that on principle. I get their message loud and clear: "We don't want your money!" Fine by me. Fry's isn't the only game in town. I'll spend my money at PC Club or any of dozens of their competitors. |

Mine was due to my bank always putting checks I deposited on hold while they would return checks I wrote. I usually pay cash for everything but one time I was repairing a computer for a customer of mine and went there. Despite clearing this up and it having happened years before, it was still a problem with them. I was in their Manhatten Beach store and the store manager was EXTREMELY RUDE she was yelling at me, telling me that they "wouldn't accpet anymore of my bad checks". In front of everybody. I only had ONE check returned to them and I called them before they had a chance to call me when I found out what my bank had done and sent a money order to their HQ in Northern Cali. It was embarrasing and I swore I would never go theree again and I haven't since. If I am ever in a position to influence purchasing, I would NEVER EVER do business with them!! |
