So my neighbor has a 60 acre plot next to mine - my house is near the property line, kind of at a military crest on my side of the hill that demarcates it. His land is just hunting land - he lives in another town. He's had friends hunt on his land, etc., not a problem. Was just sitting in my office, and I heard some cracks going through the trees outside my window. I go out to investigate, hollering at whomever was shooting what, exactly, the fuck they were doing and to stop shooting immediately, at which point I heard a pretty impressive whiz and crack right by my head - a branch about 4 feet away broke and fell to the ground. I stayed below the peak and worked my way around them - I'm assuming for the moment that they couldn't hear me.

Turns out to be 4 twenty-somethings who don't have any idea what the lay of the land is ('There's a house up there? We're so sorry!') . One of them is the landowner's daughter. Called the landowner, figured I'd let him sort it out. Told the kids if I heard any more shots near my house, the sheriff would sort it out instead.

I know, CSB, but just a reminder to be extra careful to know your backstops and everything that is beyond. Especially down here in the hills, it's easy to get turned around if you're not really familiar with the geography.

On a side note, man alive does an adrenaline rush leave me with neck pain.

I've had it happen at my place.
Hearing bullets go past gets your attention.
