| I used to shoot a shitload of it through my AK's. I long ago sold them after getting into AR's. I've never shot steel through any of them, but I'm seeing good prices on cases of the stuff. Is it shit or GTG for a rathole ammo stash? |

Is it shit or GTG for a rathole ammo stash? I have been bitching to the site staff for years that we should have an ammo forum. Do they listen? Noooooooo! Take a peek here |

Only time I shoot steel cased ammo is at night when I'm out with nods. Only because I don't want to pick up brass at night in the woods. My hand loads are considerably cheaper than steel case ammo. It's always shot ok for me. What I wanna know is: Do any of you stock steel case exclusively? Is there a lesser lifespan as opposed to brass? I always buy brass so I can keep what I can pick back up? But my reloading kit has never been unboxed. Thinking about stacking steel case rifle as deep as possible. Not sure how I feel about it in 9 or .45. Opinions? |
| Some folks have no problems with it and some do. I have one rifle that won't shoot it at all but my Rock River eats it all day long. Try it and see with about 100 rounds before buying lots of the steel cased stuff to make sure first. You should known after 100 rounds if you are good to go with it. Myself, I tend to stick with brass for my rifles but don't mind steel cases in my pistols. |

I've used it before in my AR, just seemed to be a lot softer shooting than the US brass stuff. |
| I had one of the first run Sig 556. It ran stinky steel fine, but I had to have the gas valve turned to the dirty setting for it to run reliably. They are pretty weak loads. In my ARs, back when they had lacquer on them, I would have to clean the chambers ever so often once they started sticking. Back when it was about $100 a case, I'd often shoot a case at an outing. I'd just clean it a couple of times to get through the K. |

In for the debate.... If your rifle can't run on steel case it ain't tier one. I've heard it gums up your chamber, shots bullets backwards, kabooms, etc. I've shot over 5000 rounds of the stuff and never had a problem listed above. |
