I used to shoot a shitload of it through my AK's. I long ago sold them after getting into AR's. I've never shot steel through any of them, but I'm seeing good prices on cases of the stuff. Is it shit or GTG for a rathole ammo stash?

I shoot it all the time when the price is right. Never had any problems.

I have been bitching to the site staff for years that we should have an ammo forum. Do they listen? Noooooooo!

The bi-metal rounds can wear the barrel out faster.  But you'll save more than enough money to buy a new barrel.

If your rifle can't run on steel case it ain't tier one.

Only time I shoot steel cased ammo is at night when I'm out with nods.

Only because I don't want to pick up brass at night in the woods. My hand loads are considerably cheaper than steel case ammo.

It's always shot ok for me.

Never had a problem with steel cases.

There USED to be this horrendous stink around the turn of the Century when using Steel cartridges, but no more.

I've fired 1000's of rounds of Tula, which seems to have the reputation of being the crappiest steel case ammo out there, through a handful of AR's and not had a single problem.

What I wanna know is: Do any of you stock steel case exclusively? Is there a lesser lifespan as opposed to brass? I always buy brass so I can keep what I can pick back up? But my reloading kit has never been unboxed. Thinking about stacking steel case rifle as deep as possible. Not sure how I feel about it in 9 or .45. Opinions?

I've been shooting a lot of herters steel ammo lately and it's been fine for me.

I've got some 1943 steel M1911 Ball that fires fine. It is corrosive though.

Some folks have no problems with it and some do.  I have one rifle that won't shoot it at all but my Rock River eats it all day long.  Try it and see with about 100 rounds before buying lots of the steel cased stuff to make sure first.  You should known after 100 rounds if you are good to go with it.  Myself, I tend to stick with brass for my rifles but don't mind steel cases in my pistols.

Nope, my minis would not run 100% with the under powered stuff.

I did an ammo test for tula...in 5000 rounds it damaged the area just at the throat meets freebore area

Would you carry steel cased JHP in your daily carry pistol? I think I'm gonna jump on the steel bandwagon. I've used it before in my AR, just seemed to be a lot softer shooting than the US brass stuff.

"Steel ammo'll chew up your barrel and extractor son + that's corrosive! it'll rust your gun away" -said every fudd and brass Queen ever

Honestly it's all I shot. I occasionally get stuck cases in my 20" , but they run sweet in my PSA carbine

I had one of the first run Sig 556.  It ran stinky steel fine, but I had to have the gas valve turned to the dirty setting for it to run reliably.  They are pretty weak loads.  In my ARs, back when they had lacquer on them, I would have to clean the chambers ever so often once they started sticking.  Back when it was about $100 a case, I'd often shoot a case at an outing.  I'd just clean it a couple of times to get through the K.

I dont reload, theres no way i could feed my competition shooting habit if i didnt shoot steel. Thousands of rounds of 9mm and .223 later, i can say that in my view, its as reliable as any other factory ammo ive run across.

Never had an issue shooting steel cased tula in my AR. I've put about 350 rounds through it of just tula, and maybe 120 of brass cased stuff.

I have a Windham Weaponry that really likes 62 gr Silver Bear, and has digested a wide variety of cheapo steel case without a hitch.

I've heard it gums up your chamber, shots bullets backwards, kabooms, etc.

I've shot over 5000 rounds of the stuff and never had a problem listed above.
