and the socket is sore. Any reason I shouldn't use Anbesol to ease the pain?
I took some Hydrocodone for pain but the dull ache is still there. |

Quoted: Alternate 800mgs of ibuprofen and 1000mg of tylenol every 4 hours. Throw the ambesol to the garbage. Avoid getting food in the socket. You are gunna live. Throw the hydrocodone to the garbage as well. pretty much. Hydrocodone is more to keep you from calling on Saturday night asking for something stronger than anything. Tylenol + Ibuprofen is just as effective. |

I used the narcotic before bed and ibuprofen through the day.
I had two pulled a week ago ...... took a few days before I began to feel somewhat normal. Just wait unit the teeth on either side of the one pulled begin to move a bit ...... that can be not fun if it happens !!!! Good luck !!! |

LOL not to make you guys feel bad, but I just did a full mouth extraction on a older woman, and she said she has NO post op pain at all. 28 extractions, and no pain. Was she awake for it or was she put to sleep? I fear more multiple extractions coming up for me .... and I am not going to be awake , if I have to drug myself crazy before I go in! I know in the past I have had extractions done two ways ..... In hospital OR under general. In dentist office under local. If I had to rate the two experiences the hospital/general was the way to go. ( 5 teeth - 4 wisdom and on other ) |

I agree, total anesthesia is the way to go. Lots of docs don't like to do it though. The art of anestesia, especially when it comes to rendering someone unconscious, is a delicate balance; you want to render the patient unconscious without killing him. Quoted:

Yes, its stressful as hell, monitoring vitals AND doing the work. |

Ibuprofen works better on toothaches than the Vicodin because they're anti-inflammatory drug. Alternating between IBU and Vicodin is a good suggestion.
I take Vicodin for my physical pains and when I got two teeth side by side pulled, the IBU did better rather than the Vicodin. The dentist prescribed me a bottle of it. |

( 5 teeth - 4 wisdom and on other ) Oh, for heaven's sake, extractions aren't that bad. I've had two teeth out at the same time. Oral surgeon sewed up the gum since I was going back to work. I just had local. 16 years ago I had my wisdom teeth out under sedation in the oral surgeon's office. It was a pita having to arrange for someone to drive me to the dentist, etc. I got dry socket even though I did everything right (no drinking from straws, I don't smoke, etc.). |

The pain from 20 something bad teeth was less than having 29 pulled. She was still miserable, but at least she knew that the pain was going to end in a few weeks, instead of the horror of infected teeth for months to years. BTW, if you have teeth, stay the hell away from Lyrica. It kills your teeth. |

My wife took it for a short time and it literally drove her nuts (like, punching holes in the walls). It took her 10-year-old son pleading with her ("Mom, you're not yourself, you need help!") to get her to go to the doc. |
