Many years ago, I was with some lads celebrating. A guy is passing around a bottle of pink booze. I didn't bother to look at the label, just took a swig and passed it on. A bit later I'm tipsy, and I ask what I'm drinking, and the guy says "Irish Whiskey." I was amazed at how good it tasted. I thought we were drinking really bad wine! Which is a compliment, if you know what I mean.

I tried a web search a while back to figure out what it was, but came up empty. Anyone know what it was? It was probably the good stuff, judging by what I knew about the guy.

You sure it wasn't Wild "Irish" Rose?

Let's put it this way, I thought it was some competitor of Boone's Farm, but it got me drunk so fast I knew it couldn't be wine, so I asked, and he said "Irish Whiskey." It was really, really freakin' good whiskey if it really was whiskey, which is why I want to know what it was.

But no, not Wild Irish Rose. I just ran an image search and the label was nothing like that. And it was a round bottle, IIRC. The writing on the WIR label is huge, I'd have noticed that. The writing on his bottle was much smaller. And I want to say the label was white, but don't quote me.

Sizzurp?

So the color of the whiskey was pink?

Devilman, I suppose the color is in the ballpark, sorta (I remember it being more pink or rose colored - it didn't look like whiskey) but everything else is wrong. The bottle was kinda small, looked smaller than a fifth, and it was taller, not so wide, and I want to say the label was light colored, white or something, but it's been many years.

But, I suppose all of that can change over this much time. It's a lead, so it's better than nothing, thanks.

Edit: it didn't even have the consistency of whiskey. It was much lighter than whiskey, more watery, not thick like whiskey.

I seem to have found an alcoholic unicorn.

Maybe I'll just have to track him down and find out. "Hey, you remember that pink booze you were passing around 15 years ago? What was that stuff?"

i found plenty of pink colored drinks but this was the only whiskey or scotch i could find

was it fruity flavored or alcohol flavored

was it a bright faggoty pink or a subtle tinge like the one i posted

It was way more than just a pinkish tint, it was flat-out pink. Not quite as eyebleed-pink as you get when you run a google image search for "pink booze," but in the neighborhood. But the way it was packaged, it worked, and didn't scream low-class.

Again, I'm getting nothing with a search for "pink irish whiskey" and "pink whiskey." Maybe the whole thing is just operator error. It's been more than 15 years.

Your friend was having you on.  What you had was a combination of champagne and ripple known as "Champipple".

Entirely possible. I've never (knowingly) had ripple, isn't that some ghetto drank? How much kick to this champipple?

That Winkle Rye could be it. Closest I've ever seen, anyway. Hmmm.

Edit: thing is, Dan's explanation, or something like it, makes a lot more sense in explaining the taste of this stuff. More sense than he was passing around whiskey that you could just slug back like wine, anyway.

On the other hand, this guy was an ex-SEAL, wired pretty tight, conservative, etc., and he didn't strike me as one to just lie on the fly. He got a bit offended when I told him it I thought I'd been drinking "rotgut wine." He goes "rotgut? I'll have you know that's some very fine" bla bla bla, words to that effect.

No, I'm not sure it was Irish, but I'm sure that's what he told me. I didn't know him all that well, but he seemed pretty straightforward. I wish I could remember the label. I looked at it after he told me, because I was incredulous. But I was too sauced by that point to remember what it said, now.

But I guess if I have to choose between my judgement being off/he was taking the piss and a magical new form of Irish whiskey that drinks like wine, I'll have to go with the former.

Hell, I'd be 0% surprised to find out the guy's a member here. Maybe he'll see this and enlighten me.

Possibly Tequila Rose?
