[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Is this Destiny game overhyped? (Page 1 of 2)

| I keep seeing ads for it everywhere and lots of people talking about it so I watched some gameplay videos and it doesn't really look like anything special |

Quoted: Hunter or Warlock? Titan is the only answer. Shoot until the bolt locks back then punch everything to death. Now back to: |

Now back to: http://fat.gfycat.com/ActualFeistyBettong.gif No doubt that the Hype is strong with this one, but unlike say, that pile of garbage that was Watchdogs, millions (literally) of us have already played a decent chunk of the game, and I had fun every second I was doing it. From what I'm reading there's like 20 missions that you can play over and over to level up or PvP. It's not really an open world Quoted:

It's not really an open world There's different game modes. One allows you to explore everything, however you want. |

Having played all the HALO games, and the Marathon series, yeah...Bungie has a pretty specific design language. I will say that (the Beta, at least) didn't feel like Halo. Might have just been the ADS, or possibly just not having someone lead me around by the nose but it felt a little more mature, gameplaywise. Quoted:

If you don't like futuristic first person shooters then...yeah, you're gonna hate it. But OP (and others) what turns you off about it? Idk it just looks boring. Like the whole point of the game is to grind and level up Also the fact that it's a MMO but on consoles so you can't talk to other people, doubtful that many will even have a mic |

The only info I could find is you find these beacons and complete small missions like kill 10 enemies and stuff like that |

If you don't like futuristic first person shooters then...yeah, you're gonna hate it. But OP (and others) what turns you off about it? What is the online vs single player campaign ratio? Is this a single player campaign with a multiplayer option, Or is it a MMO with a 1p campaign as an add on? I don't care much for online gaming, how disappointed am I going to be? And yes, watchdogs sucked |

There were a LOT of secret areas though. |

I played the Beta. I mean it was fun, i liked the MMoish feel. But my biggest problems is the interface of the next gen consoles. I think that is what makes me hate video games now adays.
I will be getting destiny. Also GTA 5 for next gen. or Current gen whatever you call it. |

Quoted: Agreed. Also, it has been some time since a game made me want to explore like Destiny does. And the music/set pieces = awesome. I'm excited for the game, enough to get around to buying a console.
I'm not usually an FPS player, but I liked games like mass effect and fallout, kinda burned out on MMOs. Destiny is not an MMO, but the biggest concern I have about the game is that it's going to have console MMO problems, saw a lot of groups in beta where one team member couldn't figure out what to do and there was no way to communicate with them. I'm torn between bladedancer Hunter and smash Titan, probably play both. |

Bungie could have knocked it out of the park if they had bothered to develop this game for PC, as it is... I dunno to be honest.. I don't see it doing that well, due to the nature of today's console gaming. I don't see them making their 500 million budget back. It'll be out for PC next year. |
|
I have it preorder. Also the first game I've ever preordered.
I bought it from target. Traded ac iv that I got for $2 in at target and they gave me a $20 gc and 20% off destiny. Also preordering from target gets you a 5 gc. So I'm paying $28 for the new hotness and getting a 5 gc. |

Quoted:
The games probable not for everyone. Combat is very reminiscent of Halo but that's not necessarily a bad thing depending on where you stand on Halo. In my opinion this is the first time a console game has successfully combined MMO (sort of) and FPS. Will be interesting to see if it succeeds. All depends on the depth. |

The missus, myself, and a group of about 5 friends will be at the midnight release in (probably) mid 30 degree weather for it. What do you think?
I love their live action. |

This is a lie. I doubt they even have video games in Alaska. |
