Which one guys? The regular or the HL version (High Lumen)

Double the lumens with the HL but 1/2 the run time

The standard version is plenty bright for HD/SD.

For what purpose?  Handgun?  Rifle?  HD or police?  What you are going to use it for should answer your question relatively easily.

Will be on the nightstand gun

got the HL for my rifle.  after working with it for a bit, there's no way i would want something that bright for HD--hard to navigate indoors after a temporary illumination reduces the world to an amorphous mass of purple blobs.

think i'll go with regular output on the next one.

Well, mine has an HD.  The only way I can blind myself with it is by shining it directly in my eyes.  I've tried.  I've shot using it in low light, I've shot using other lights in low light, and my opinion is that for an HD gun, where the chance you need hours of run time is relatively nill, the more lumens the better.  I particularly like the HD TLR1 over the 300x Ultra because it's so much more flood than hot spot, I think it's perfect for an HD gun.

I have the HL on my home defense carbine.
Woke up out of a dead sleep the other night to a noise.
Grabbed the gun to go check, and I didn't have any issues with it inhibiting my vision.
The cat had knocked over the trash, so I bladed 45 at him for a little while and went back to bed.
Before that happened, I was worried that it might be a problem based on all the posts about it on the interwebs, but now I'm happy that I have the extra lumens.

My TLR1s is plenty bright indoors.

Whatever one you like best.

I've discovered that the ambidextrous switch on my TLR-1s snags on clothing. Frickin' lefties, screwing up the world for normal people.

ETA: My non-HL version is plenty bright. Almost too bright.

I thought the HL would be too bright for interior use, until I bought one.
Yes, more lumens is better lumens.
A quick splash on the ground will illuminate an entire room.
Don't look where your spot hits and you won't get the purple spots
The HL has excellent flood aspect with a strong spot at distance but not too bright to use for HD
The wife has a 1S on her px4, I will be upgrading her to a HL asap

I posted the same question here a while back and bought the HL based upon many recommendations.

I couldn't be any happier with the choice, I ended up buying another one that's specifically for my hunting bag.

My bedside, FNP40 with TLR-1s:

It's this model: http://www.primaryarms.com/Streamlight_TLR1S_Weapon_Light_w_Strobe_STL69210_p/stl69210.htm

Its 300 lumens is more than enough. I couldn't imagine having the brightness of the HL model.

I just got a TLR-1S from PA. It's the 300 lumen model. Haven't opened it up yet.

Good point.
The only pistol I own with a light is my nightstand gun and the TLR series removes easily.
But holster options is still a bonus

Yup. I have a HL and two standards. I'd take the standard all day

I have the regular TLR-1 and it is about the perfect brightness for indoors. Bright enough to see everything and blind the bad guy, but not so bright it blinds you as well.

But only if you're willing to pony up for a DG switch, because their rocker/push switch sucks.  With a DG, it's great.  More spot than the TLR, which is why I like the TLR for inside.

I should just add this to my sig line. Fuck Surefire, and their crappy little plastic clips.

I've owned both and I prefer the TLR-1S 330 lumen version for indoors, that's plenty of light and I prefer its hotspot w/peripheral spill to the HL's flood effect (although I prefer the HL for outdoor use). Either will serve you well.
