How are the optics compared to a Vortex Strikefire? Low light?
You know who is having another sale and I'm VERY tempted to upgrade.

I just bought two more for my ARs without optics. Got ADM mounts on them now too, one lower third and one standard cowitness.

I think that's brings my total number up to something like five.

Astigmatism made me get rid of mine. Too bright on the highest setting, it causes a big halo in the tube. Click it down to one under max setting and it's still super bright for outdoors in the sun. My eyes just don't like red dots.

The aimpoints will be hand down better. The vortex are great for what they are and their price point, but they will never be an aimpoint.

Not sure if serious. You know it has more settings than just "bright as fuck" right?

I've still never needed to have any of my aimpoints on full bright, even shooting in the sun, even in Afghanistan.

And I've got an astigmatism in both eyes.

I swear to god people don't even read manuals anymore.

Anyways, pro tip for aimpoints (which have yet to be surpassed in battery life by any optic)

When you zero the thing, turn the dot down until you can barely see it for the best group and use a black target.

Turn it up until it is visible but not a bright shining beacon of freedom. That's too high.

Turn it back down super low at night for your bedside gun.

That's weird.  I had the opposite problem with mine. I turned it all the way up to the 3rd setting and I still couldn't see the dot. What a POS. Can't decide whether to cutit up with a bandsaw or throw it down my driveway

Soooo why didn't you just keep turning down the brightness? They have like 20 settings and you only tried the brightest two?

I had to get rid of my Aimpoint due to astigmatism.  It may affect everyone a little differently, but whether I had a $50 Red Dot or $600 Red Dot, the dot looked like a sparkly banana.  If I took a photograph of the dot it was perfect.    I could not get a resolved dot with astigmatism.   Some Trijicon reticles work for me, (have an Accupoint green triangle that's perfect) but when I look through an ACOG Donut, I see two donuts.

Aimpoint is the only way to go for a red dot in my opinion.
They're nearly bomb proof, have ridiculously long battery life, and very easy to operate.
The PRO is their best value.

It's the most red dot optic you can get for the dollar spent.  If you look you can find them on sale for under $400.

eta: Palmetto has them for $356 with the coupon code "PRO."

Astigmatism here. Never used a PRO, but the only reason you'd ever turn it on the highest setting is when you're outdoors at mid day surrounded by white sand and then the halo disappears as it's drown out by the bright daylight. My M3 and T-1 both did/do the same thing. This is absolutely a NON ISSUE when you have the proper intensity selected for your environment. That's the whole reason why you can adjust it to begin with. It's like complaining that a car always peels out and never gets good traction because you are always flooring it and dropping the clutch.

You do shoot with both eyes open, right?

Also, the PRO is barely over 2.5 times the weight of the T1 (sight only, not the mount... 3.0oz vs 7.8oz). Not sure what the T-1 riser mount weighs, but I'd assume the combo is about 4.5-5oz vs 11.6oz for the PRO with the stock mount. Hardly 5 times...

I shoot anything short of 100 with both eyes open. 1-600m I still close one. Can't help it I guess.

I currently have the Strikefire. Just don't like the button arrangement and the optics are just adequate.

For starters, can you put a battery in your Vortex and leave it turned on for 5 years? Other than the NV settings, my T1 doesn't even have an off button.

Probably not worth sending it back since my friends aimpoint does the same thing. Sad thing is I bought a $30 red dot from Walmart and I can see the dot on the very first setting, heck I could get 12 for the price of one of the aimpoint

I have a CompM? on a personal rifle, and I've used M68s extensively while deployed and my civilian employer provides the Aimpoint PRO, and there is no noticeable difference between the Pro and the more expensive Aimpoints.  Any Aimpoint is miles ahead of the Strikefire for serious use.
