there's quite a few

For infantry

for what echelon of infantry
for what use in infantry

still lots of questions before I can get an answer

Individuals have different radios than squads than platoons and companies than battalions and up....

what are YOU trying to do - I could also answer it that way.

sit down before you start reading

much like your first question - what do you want to do, who do you want to talk to, how far and where and how much work do you want to put into learning how to do it

I've seen some Motorola mx350s in use by MPs.

Well, it was about 5 years ago, maybe they got new ones by now.

As the guys are telling you as only GD can, is that it is not a on-line answer.  Ham is possible but the restriction on encryption (it's forbidden fro HAM's) makes them somewhat unsuitable for tactical comms.  That tos is not always the case as there are some techniques that can obfuscate your signals, but they are not typically easy to set up for the novice.  I have had my general ticket for some time, and am still researching as time permits, the best balance for general and tactical or emergency use.

I would tell the HAM guys here what you want to accomplish and let them guide you.  Some good advice to be had on a lot of subjects here.

Here you go OP, it'll run you about $400 and you'll need a Technician class HAM radio ticket.

Thales AN/PRC-148 MBITR which stands for multi band intra team radio

Harris AN/PRC-152.

Both are 30-512 MHz with flash upgradeable capabilities to support various waveforms.

Motorola XTS2500s in 380-470 split are common as well.
