I was watching a movie with FLV player and my screen went black and my speakers made a strange noise for like 15 seconds and my PC restarted and now
Windows 7 keeps blue screening with the error "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed"
I can start in safe mode just fine, if in safe mode I remove the video drivers , I can start in normal mode just fine, then I install drivers and it asks to restart and blue screens again with the same error. I have tried different drivers and get the same error. I have also tried different slots on the MB with the same error.
I have also tried all the windows repair stuff with the same error. The only thing I have not tried is another video card because I don't have one and reinstalling windows. I have a feeling the video card is fucked because for the past year or so youtube videos and stuff had lines through them only on this pc.
But if the card is not fucked any ideas?

ETA card is an evga geforce gtx 465 no over clocking

Are you reinstalling drivers via Device Manager, Windows Update, manually off evga's site or GeForce Experience?

manually off Nvida's site

Did you uninstall the old drivers first? I thought nvidia recommended uninstalling old drivers before installing new drivers. Use to anyway. Don't know if that would make a difference but it's worth a shot.

I run an IT department.  Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

It sounds, to me, like the card went south.

No real way to test without replacing the card, though.

Just funning ya.  In all seriousness, have you tried removing the aftermarket video card and booting from there?  Remove any vestige of the aftermarket card, including the additional software they tend to bundle with their drivers.  Then, if you have another workstation, try installing that same video card with the most recent drivers.  That should tell you if you have a video card hardware failure.

I would also suggest doing a custom clean installation utilizing GeForce Experience, which will ensure old drivers are completely eradicated and the correct new ones are being installed in their place.

If all else fails, where in Ohio are ya?  I'm sure two Arfcommers troubleshooting a PC would at least be lolzier for GD than one.

Usually if you install the drivers and it crashes again the card is dead, do you have an onboard video card you can use?

Boot to a live Linux CD, see if it persists.

Have you pulled the video card out and LOOKED at it?  Failed cap, failed fan, etc.?

Sounds similar to a problem I had.  Expansion video in, computer either (rarely) threw a BSOD or (usually) spun the fans, but wouldn't start up at all.  Being the rocket scientist I am, I replaced the (proprietary, expensive) power supply only to have the same problem.  Did a more in depth search, and found out when the video card goes, nuthin works.  Replaced the video and all is well.

Good luck.
