Made the mistake of ordering online from Walmart and had to send something back.  I used their USPS return label and physically handed the package to post office worker.  After almost a month the tracking number is not updated (they recycle numbers).  Called local post office and they say , “it could take a few weeks for tracking to update”.  This package apparently just disappeared into a black hole somewhere behind the counter of the local post office.

So now  via email, Walmart is accusing me of not returning the package and threating to charge my account for the unreturned item.  By “charge my account” I imagine they’ll attempt to charge the credit card I made the original purchase with.

Thought about just disputing the charge once it shows up on my statement, but I suspect they’d just keep trying.  Since it’s only a $20 item I could just bend over and let them screw me…but that just burns me.  Maybe report my credit card compromised, request a new card # and give zero additional fucks to this matter.

Was it sent priority mail? All priority has insurance coverage included now.

Did USPS give you a receipt? My local PO does. When you hand over the pkg, they scan it and hand you a receipt showing it was dropped off.

Not priority mail, they just email you a link to click on to bring up a printable address label.  I now just discovered that everytime you click on the link, it regenerates a different tracking number.  Now I don't have a clue what the actual tracking number was on the package.

Postman didn't get me a reciept as it was a pre-paid package.  When I handed it to him I asked if everything was GTG and he said "Yup"

It specifically says DO NOT RETURN TO STORE, hence the pre-paid mailing label.

Since now I'm not sure of the tracking number I guess I could just keep my fingers crossed and hope it gets there.  Checking the return online it still says they didn't recieve it.  After a month it seems likely it's lost somewhere.

For future reference, you can get a receipt, with the tracking number on it, when you bring it to the PO and it is scanned at the counter. If it is priority mail, you can schedule to have it picked up with your regular mail, and they 'should' leave you a pickup confirmation letter that acknowledges the pickup and the tracking number. When you are dealing with returns, it is always a good idea to have proof of mailing.
