I'm still puttering along at 850 Mhz (AMD Duron)- which seems fast until you try to do some graphics work and then it's just frustrating. Anybody running slower? What's the fastest now? |

Quoted: Quoted: Anybody running slower? Ever since I got kicked out of the house in October I have been "surfing" using a Pentium 133mhz on a 56k modem that only tests at 37k. Slow enough for ya'? Now I don't feel so bad! But if you're just surfing, that's not so bad. If you want to downgrade even more, I have an old acer 100mhz computer with 8mb of ram just sitting in a closet [:P] (now means I'm sticking my tongue out, not drooling!) |

My computer has been obsolete for a long time. It's a boosted up 400 mhz that started out as a 200 mhz Pentium I. Do I win? Running Win98SE on a Pentium II 450Mhz 384M Ram, 40Gig HDD that has its problems (119 bad sectors, and its only 8 months old). Other comupter has Mandrake Linux and is a AMD K6 200Mhz MMX with a 3.7G HDD with 128M RAM, slow but very stable. |

I'm using a laptop P3 700Mhz. At work I have a P4 2.4Ghz, but since it's on an NT network, it's slower than my laptop. For internet connectivity, I am using a microwave radio link. Out here in the sticks, I can't even get cable, much less DSL. Luckily, a local farmer stepped up and mounted a radio system on the grain elevator in town and has 2 T1's to feed it. Not as fast as cable, but I just tested it at 1.1 Mbps. |

Why did the farmer do this? Is he charging for the services? |

On my end, there is a little flat circular antennae on the back of my house (about 6" diameter), and the radio is a small little thing that looks like an older Walkman. It connects to the PC via ethernet cable. The reason the farmer went to the trouble is that before he did it, we only had one dial up ISP, and they SUCKED! So he realized there was a small market locally and got the T1's, eqpt, etc. and sent out fliers through the mail. You have to buy the radio (but they buy it back if you quit) and it costs $50/month (similar to cable modem). You have to realize I live in a town with ONE stop sign, and not much else. Here's a link: www.mtwirefree.net If they finally get enough customers, the speed will go down a little. |

I'm currently on an AMD 2.4 with 512MB of DDR3200C2. Next to me is a dual P3 750 with 1.5GB ram. Behind me is a new machine I just built. 2.8 P4 with 1GB DDR2700C2. Also in this room is a 600 Celeron and a 1400 Celeron. When I'm at work, I use a AMD 1400 with 1.5GB RAM. |

Quoted: Genuine Intel Celeron 400MHz!![nana] With a whoppin' 160MB of Ram Baby!![jump] The only thing that helps me is the High Speed Cable Internet! Big(PleaseDon'tLaugh)Dozer66 Same situation: 833 PIII Dell w/ 256 RAM & 32 Meg Vid card. 7200 RPM HDD. But - Cable! Who wanted to downgrade? I'll trade ya if you have anything better! Sloooooooow is me... |
