[ARCHIVED THREAD] - LED ZEPPELIN. (Page 1 of 2)

Incredible studio band from 1968-1975, and gave blistering live performances until 1973 (I have most of them on my hard drive). Then the heroin hit Jimmy Page hard,
Plant's voice was inconsistent at best, and concerts from the later years became sloppy, filled with 30 minute drum solos from Bonham. I do have a lot of respect for them for not replacing Bonham after his death, and trotting out for a world tour every three years cranking out the same songs every night- most other bands would have gone for the money. |

I'm not a big fan. I can listen. I somewhat get the appeal, but I just don't see the over all greatness. Jimmy Page, sure. The rest? Meh. Wow. John Bonham was a drumming genius. And I'be bet the members of Zeppelin would tell you John Paul Jones was the best musician in the band. |

I saw Zep in the 70's. FUCKING AMAZING
3 hours ... it was like an explosion of music...never felt as much energy in a single room. No opening act.... Just Ladies and Gentlemen...Led Zeppelin. they revolutionized rock and roll. Bonham was amazing. Page was sloppy and heavily rooted in the blues...but when you combined them all...it was magical |

Quoted: Their body of work is incredible. It really is. I got turned into Zep from my first girlfriend. It was the only redeeming quality she had. "Ten Years Gone" gets me every time. "Ten Years Gone" gets me every time. It was before the internet, so rock was video games/internet/cable/on demand/ipod all rolled into one. ETa; Kids dressed in Band T shirts, talked bands, tried to get their hands on bootlegs, made tapes from vinyl (before they were called "mix" tapes), etc. Stones versus Beatles was a second cold war, etc. |

Up there, for sure. Just chiming in before the haters chime in with plagiarism claims. Because its becoming trendy to hate Zeppelin these days. Quoted:

Saw then in the 70's.
The 2007 tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun at O2 Arena will likely be their last. With Jason Bonham sitting in for his legendary father, Zep showed they still had that spark. According to Guinness World Records 2009, the concert holds the world record for the "Highest Demand for Tickets for One Music Concert" as 20 million requests for the reunion show were rendered online. Interesting historical note, Jason Bonham promised his father the day before he left for tour rehearsal that he would go back to playing drums. Jason would never see his father alive again. |
| Trendy to hate Led Zepplin nowadays? Wow, the sound makers today (notice I did not say musicians) don't even play instruments. They take some a-hole who can carry a tune...program some computer noise, wrap them in flashing lights, stick a pole up their ass, stick them up in the air and say.....they are great musicians! |

I was too young to see Led Zeppelin perform, but I did get to see Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience last year.
It was incredible and their sound quality was crystal clear and perfectly balanced. Jason plays drums with a lot of different bands, and stays busy, but if you ever get a chance to see him do the Zep tribute live, it is an unforgettable concert. Their singer, James Dylan, sounds exactly like Robert Plant. Check out video of them performing "Since I've Been Loving You". It will give you chill bumps when you see them live. Since I've Been Loving You by Jason Bonham Led Zep Experience You can also hear a lot of their other performance at James Dylan's website: James Dylan-videos |

I chalk it up to "the white man stole the black man's music" trope. |

Yep.The best."When The Levee Breaks" is my personal favorite. That is indeed a timeless sonic masterpiece. Nothing even remotely like it before or since. It's cool story about how they did the drum track. No one spends the time and energy to make music like that any more. |

I agree, Plant did damaged his throat in '73 and they kept it a secret from the public that he had surgery and add to the fact that he chained smoked up until the 80's,bonhams drinking and Page's drug use it was hit or miss from mid 1973 on .Though the Earls court shows in 75 are some of my favorite live shows on cd. |
