[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Why does GD hate the Prius? (Page 1 of 5)
|
Yes, they are usually occupied by collectivist dipshits who buy and drive them as some kind of statement.
Also, the only one I was ever in was very small, uncomfortable and appeared very cheaply and lightly constructed. I get that small and light are necessary when it comes to hybrids, but I was shocked at the degree to which these descriptors applied. Also, the touted economy is apparently fictitious. This is often the case to one degree or another with many cars, but for a car whose ONLY real selling point is its fuel economy, it seems like a real bait and switch routine. |
I like it. I get it a lot for a rental thru Avis. Personally, no... Because I understand value. By the time you make your money back (at least for me) on the price difference of a normal comparable red state vehicle, it would be far from worth it.........otherwise I like the challenge to driving it and keeping mpg close to 50 Otherwise for a 6'2 neckbeard, it has plenty of room

I know more than a couple legit BTDT types who drive them. I guess they don't have anything to prove, but enjoy much better than average mileage on their longish commutes.
I don't care for the looks, but I sure am not going to judge anyone unless they have a "Yes We Did" sticker on it too. |

-It's the fanny pack of cars
-To get the "savings" on gas vs. a subcompact car that is 10 grand cheaper, you have to drive it for years -0bongo voters love it -It's a Toyota and isn't a 4Runner, Taco, or Land Cruiser -It's slow -hybrids will make you into a chick |
Because Arfcom thinks that burning tires on Earth Day is a manly activity.
I don't understand how it is manly to foul the Earth. I've asked Arfcom to explain this phenomenon in the past and received responses from people who explained that the attitude is simply a reaction to the over zealousness of Liberals with regard to protecting the environment. We, as pro-Second Amendment types invite unnecessary ridicule when we advocate for fouling the planet. In before those who say "but electric vehicles depend on coal-fueled electricity." If Prius made a four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle, I would consider one. In the meantime, I'll drive my Hummer H3, another vehicle hated by Arfcommers who have never taken an H3 off road in Utah. |

What makes the car stupid? Quoted:

Stupid car for stupid idealists. Toyota should've made a diesel instead. Greener, faster, and mo betta. What makes the car stupid? Because, that's why. Sadly that is about the extent of the argument you will get. I prefer a Subaru myself for hippie cars out there, but the Prius is fine. GD is not always a rationale or logical group. |

-To get the "savings" on gas vs. a subcompact car that is 10 grand cheaper, you have to drive it for years Why would you compare a Prius (midsize) to a subcompact? A 5 door Yaris w/ cruise control will run you $17.3k. A Prius C (subcompact 5 door) w/ cruise will run you $21.2k. $4k difference, not $10k. |

Because posing, unthinking dumbasses, that's why. Prii are ubiquitous now. They get purchased my everyone and the early era sterotype is no longer the rule. True-ish, but not in all cases. My Prius C gets an easy 50 mpg, has a premium no more than a Subaru, or Mercedes, or diesel, and carries arms and ammo like a champ. I'm no lib or tree hugger. It's just haters gonna hate. |

The hate is unfounded. I had one for a year and only sold it because I hated the driver seat. It got great mileage and cost practically nothing to drive. Buying them new is dumb but they are a great value used. That drivers seat is terrible - it's specifically designed with a little hump under your balls that cuts off testosterone production. Are you feeling better now that you've sold it? |

I average 48 mpg on the highway with mine all the time. I drove 730 miles round trip to the ar15.com store opening in Canton last week and spent less than 50 dollars in fuel to do it. Gas was in the 3.30 to 3.40 range at the time. eta: Wait a sec... weren't you there?

Absolutely no adjustability. |
