We've lived in our house in the country for over 18 years and never smelled anything like the chemical we've been smelling the past week. I can't describe the odor, but the odor is very strong in the early morning before sunrise. As the sun rises and gets warmer, there is usually a light breeze coming through the valley and the smell goes away. The next morning, same thing. I done a bit of research regarding methlabs in hopes of being educated with odors and such, but I'm not necessarily finding answers to the odor we are smelling. The odor is so strong that we keep the animals and ourselves inside until mid-morning. I've contacted the local Sheriffs office with concerns that the house up the road may have a cooking op going on. Years ago before we moved here the same house was busted for having a lab inside a single wide mobile home on the back of that property. The house and structures (and the goings on) there look the part. |

If it smells like cat piss, then you have a meth lab.
look here |

A place with a verified meth lab would likely be deemed uninhabitable.
Does it have a strong ammonia odor? That's what I remember from going by a guys place that used to sell it as a kid. He didn't cook it just sold it but it was still so strong you could smell it from the street. |

Quoted:
The odor sort of reminds me of hydraulic oil in a way. But I know it's not just hydraulic oil I smell. Fertilizer or herbicide type mix. Only one way to find out, shoot Roman candles at the house when you smell it. If it explodes it was probably a meth house. Aim for an open window, you will get better results. |

Quoted: If it smells like cat piss, then you have a meth lab Depends on the method. The cat piss smell is from the old P2P method (methylamine). Red-White-Blue smells more like clorox (iodine). Nazi method smells like ammonia. One Pot doesn't produce that much smell until they open it, then it's mostly acrid solvent type smell. But since the OP says they had a lab busted up the road a few years ago, I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were in business again. |

The odor is not cat piss. I was a carpet cleaner for many years, and know the smell well. Like I said, I've researched the smell and chemicals used. I honestly cant explain the odor, but to me it smells toxic and not something one would want to be around without a suitable respirator. I'm wondering if the odor could be a chemical that's used to make it that has been dumped out some where. |

that would be my dog on the bottom right |

I lost my lab last fall. He was on the bottom left however the first three years of his life he was the one on the bottom right. Miss that boy Eta sorry to derail please continue |
| Yep either cat piss or just a real strong chemical smell. Cooking crack smells about the same only not as strong. I remember when..a friend...used to whip up some coke and baking soda whole house smelled like a jar of pickled jalapeno peppers for hours after he finished. It's hard to describe a good meth smell but once you smell either one though you'll always recognize it. And you'll always want to buy an 1/8th. |
