I've always got my ear protection on when at the range, but I'll be honest and say I don't really use it at home with my .22 rifles. But I'll be getting back in the habit of wearing it, no matter what I'm shooting.
Poll on the way |

Because of my wife lost a lot of hearing in her 20's, I am fearful of losing mine.
I wear ear plugs excessively. If I am out in the shop anytime for any reason, I have ear plugs on (even just hammering one nail) Working with any kind of tools, I have ear plugs on. Any time shooting, I always have ear plugs (even hunting) on. |

I only wear ear pro for unsuppressed centerfire.
.22 and shotguns and suppressed rifles I never wear ear pro, unless people are shooting next to me. I never wore ear pro while in the Marines unless I'm doing rifle quals. Helmets kind of block the sound, but I never wore ear pro while training with live fire. It did however suprise the shit out if me when the tanks started shooting in a combined arms excercise. I thought they were going to 'notionally' shoot. |

Quoted:
If a noise is loud enough to make your ears ring, even a little, you need hearing protection. The ringing noise is the sound of the hair cells in your inner ear dying. So first comes hearing loss, then comes tinnitus. Always wear hearing protection. Just because you don't notice, does not mean damage is not being done. |

If it was repetitive shooting outside, then yes.
Several rounds here and there outside from a rifle, then no. If shot from a pistol, hell yes. If indoors, yes. I don't even mind shooting my 20" AR 5.56 outside without muffs. It's actually not that bad with the end of the muzzle out that far. |
