I've always got my ear protection on when at the range, but I'll be honest and say I don't really use it at home with my .22 rifles. But I'll be getting back in the habit of wearing it, no matter what I'm shooting.

Poll on the way

If a noise is loud enough to make your ears ring, even a little, you need hearing protection.

The ringing noise is the sound of the hair cells in your inner ear dying. So first comes hearing loss, then comes tinnitus.

Always wear hearing protection.

Since I shoot 99.9999% of the time in an indoor range with other people shooting too.  Yes. Always.

Subsonic out of a long barrel is not loud to begin with. High velocity yes.

Always it a bit strong of a word - but yes, unless suppressed 99.9% of the time.  I will shoot a single shot w/o protection on extremely rare occasion.  I think it has been more than 10 years now.

I use ear pro all the time. Always when on my moto, mowing the yard, power tools. But no, not with 22 rifles. They just aren't very loud to me.
7/2/2014 11:05:56 AM EDT
[#14]
At an active range, yes (as the earpro is for what everyone else might be shooting).

At a private range by myself, never (as I'm always shooting 22 suppressed).

Because of my wife lost a lot of hearing in her 20's, I am fearful of losing mine.

I wear ear plugs excessively.  If I am out in the shop anytime for any reason, I have ear plugs on (even just hammering one nail)
Working with any kind of tools, I have ear plugs on.

Any time shooting, I always have ear plugs (even hunting) on.

Always wear ear pro, unless I am killing back yard vermin. Then It is usually one shot.

Ear and eye pro, always.

Fuck  ear-prom that is why I bought a Sparrow

If for some unknown reason I was to not use the Sparrow yes I would use ear-pro.

TBH I dont with .22lr out of a rifle most of the time
that bad habit gave me a real bad headache one day
when somebody touched off a deer rifle while I had my head down looking at something with my ear pro off
complacency killed me head for that day lol

Unless I'm shooting suppressed bolt action, yes.  I even use ear pro with my Mk III 22/45 when the suppressor is on.  Too much noise from the action during ejection.

CB caps don't require ear protection if the barrel is long. Suspect the BB caps are the same deal.

I only wear ear pro for unsuppressed centerfire.

.22 and shotguns and suppressed rifles I never wear ear pro, unless people are shooting next to me.

I never wore ear pro while in the Marines unless I'm doing rifle quals.
Helmets kind of block the sound, but I never wore ear pro while training with live fire.
It did however suprise the shit out if me when the tanks started shooting in a combined arms excercise. I thought they were going to 'notionally' shoot.

Most of the time. When shooting subsonics or using my supressor, I don't wear ear pro.

Usually.

But I always enjoy cracking off a few rounds of 22LR without my hearing protection on.   It's an enjoyable cracking.

Very rarely, if ever. I normally shoot unsuppressed standard velocity. My land is wide open, so it's not loud or the least bit uncomfortable at all. Everything else gets ear pro.

.22 is not hearing safe, even out of a rifle.  A shot here and there?  I've done it.  A range session?  Always wear hearing protection.

I didn't as a kid. Now I wear ear pro if I am shooting a firearm. I've gotten better about power tools as well.

In the end, it's just not worth it.

Always, unless suppressed.

Depends which rifle I'm shooting.  !0/22 or other semi normally yes.  Marlin single shot bolt action is nearly silent so then no.

If it was repetitive shooting outside, then yes.

Several rounds here and there outside from a rifle, then no.

If shot from a pistol, hell yes.

If indoors, yes.

I don't even mind shooting my 20" AR 5.56 outside without muffs.  It's actually not that bad with the end of the muzzle out that far.

"Most of the time" but only because my CZ-452 SE has a 28" barrel making ear pro utterly unnecessary with the SK Standard Velocity ammo I shoot out of it.

I have enough tinnitus, thanks.  Ear pro all the time.

If I'm shooting a 22, it's suppressed.

So no ears unless I'm at the range and other people are there.

Then I'm shooting my unsuppressed MK18 with the brake until they leave.
