Certain Oregon state parks have yurts or deluxe yurts that you can rent.

They're a great way to spend a few days away if you don't want to do a tent.

I looked into yurts.  They're cool and funky but not as cheap and functional as a heavy duty wall tent.

I always thought that yurts were pretty cool.

I spent a night in a "deluxe" yurt once in the biggest wind storm of the year, it was a little sketchy but worked.

Yurts are cool, but I think the Native American Tipi is more efficient for a nomadic people. The frame poles can double as travois' for transport.

Those things smelled terrible.

The wife and I used to rent a Yurt on the Oregon coast for around 24 bucks a night. Great times...really.

My "roommate" and the neighbors just went to "greenbridge farm" in gyton SC. They guy was working on some yurts. He was kind of walling them in, connecting some, and making some rooms.

Not sure why you would want to do all that work but the guy was a helicopter pilot in the marine corp. They got the yurts in Colorado. They were trying to air condition it but I am told it wasn't working very well.

Made me thing of this thread.

There's a campground near me that has a couple of them.

Why wouldn't AC work in a yurt?  Aren't most of them pretty well insulated?

I rented one up near Flagstaff.  I was pretty pleased with it, as it was way easier than setting up a tent, but the cost per night was about the same.  The one I was in had a potbelly stove inside, which took up a pretty good chunk of space, but apart from that I thought it was great.

Friend of mine made one for use at SCA events.

It was much nicer than a tent for late night partying/drinking.

Many years ago I was thinking about making one for the same thing actually.

It was a small AC and the yurt not very well insulated. It's hot as hell here, and humid.

The guy isn't done with it yet.

I'm getting all this second hand, and with a few phone pics. I didn't get to go.
