So I never thought I would be saying this, but I guess times are a changing.

I'm at the lake this past Friday going for a cruise with my girl. She is in her bathing suit, sorry no pics, and we are cursing the shoreline.

Sure enough, some prick flies his drone about 40' above us and follows the boat for a couple minutes. I politely wave to the gopro he has mounted with my middle finger.

Now, what if I had happened to be practicing my bola tossing skills and happened to hit his drone and knock it into the water? Is there any rights of privacy on public waterways above you?

Oh goodie.

Another person who thinks a $300 hobby copter has military grade video.

At 40 feet (if it was indeed that close), I seriously doubt the operator got any detail whatsoever.

Probably someone either testing their skills by tracking you or just some jerk screwing with you.

A guy standing on shore with a long range optic setup would have better luck getting detail, likely.

Wouldn't feel sorry for someone losing a copter to a clearly pissed off boat owner under the circumstances you described, however.
Assuming it indeed followed you from directly overhead for several minutes.
Bring a BB gun.

Ya that's fucking bullshit. I'm cool with flying around with camera mounted but over people trying to enjoy a public space is horse shit.

It's funny how folks from Illinois dislike freedom...

A hobby quad or hex is not a damn drone!  Sorry.

If you don't want to be seen in public,  than stay indoors.

You are butthurt about a quad with a GoPro on board,  yet what about the traffic cameras that can essentially follow you everywhere you can drive?  What about the cctv cameras in stores that can follow you all over the store?  What about all the cellphone cameras in the possession of 9 out of ten peoples hands?  Police cars with dash cams?  News reporters?  Are you butthurt about those too?

You mean remote control plane/helicopter?

I hate how everyone is calling RC Planes & Helicopters Drones.... People have had them for years and they weren't called Drones... That is just a recent name to make them sound "scary"

It's probably annoying but think of it this way when you are in public there really is no right to privacy. They'd why it's called a "Public" place....

I'm either going with coincidence that he was following you, with you and your GF just being paranoid, or he was just messing with some people on a boat. He also more than likely couldn't see the video until AFTER he landed and watched his video so flipping him off wouldn't have done anything for the situation.

But.... Again, we won't be able to detetmain which it was unless we get the pic of GF to see of that's why he was indeed following you.

What's the best shot size and do you have to use steel duck loads over water ?

Willful destruction of property comes to mind, and that's just the criminal charges.

How about civil liability? You'd already need a lawyer and bail money anyway.

Yes.  I'm not opposed to putting a bullet through a camera at a road intersection.

How dare someone to enjoy a public place while he enjoys a public place.
