Yeah, I'm not going to embed that for you. Suffice it say that if you ever plan to get in a shoot-out while you are wearing your Johnny Space Commander Mask, this is the training academy for you. pfftt!!! Shows what you know!!! Obviously, you've never been captured by Cartel members, had a plastic bag put over your head (right before the liveleak vid is about to be recorded ) and then broken loose, gotten your hideout piece and smoked them fools in short order while suffering from severe hypoxia. Clearly, Instructor Zero is training for his next cartel takedown.

Ever do PT in a protective mask? It feels almost what I imagine what he felt. I have been at the bottom of a pig pile where I couldn't breath, talk about a panic inducing moment where you can't kill the muther fucker killing you because it's your buddy. You can't scream because you have no air, and even if you could scream, everyone else is screaming and shouting, so one more voice is not going to really stand out. Now I could see having to shoot a target of opportunity under that situation. Super rare? of course, but the more mundane and hyper rare situations you train under, the less your brain has to think through for a new solution. to a new problem. is this technique silly, perhaps, but the lessons your brain takes from it are valid, it will panic less when and if it is somehow deprived of the ever present air we all take for granted. |

A buddy posted that to his FB, saying he wanted to discuss it, that he had an opinion, but he wanted other opinions from fellow instructors first. I said it was stupid and gimmicky, and did very little to prepare anyone to survive a gunfight. He deleted it without giving his opinion. |

That is a weird training method. I've never considered using those types of ideas toward firearms training. I usually have to pay a hooker to attack me with a piece of cardboard taped to a pipe while I masturbate with a bag on my head. Now that's training that could actually benefit the average ARFCOMer. |

Used to watch PJ;s train and run down the road at bragg all the time with promasks on Better than training at high altitude - Im pretty sure this guy has an extensive military background.. forgot what country though. |

If you're underneath a pig pile that's so heavy that you can't breath, what are you going to do with a handgun? The pig pile was in corrections, and thus, no gun. the handgun? well I don't know, but thinking and options are critical thinking skills that are degraded when you can't breath. So in my particular experience (the only one I can relate) I had no gun, but I could envision a police officer in a situation where in high stress and breathing are compromised and the need to critically think (maybe use a gun) could come in handy. If a person lacks imagination as to possible situations one might find themselves in then they aren't really training, they are going through the motions. Do baseball players only practice swinging at fastballs? Do football receivers only train to catch a ball that's right on the numbers? |

While I generally think that training improves your odds of success, there are many skills that have a much higher chance of being needed in an actual fight than the oxygen deprivation. However, it you really want to deprive yourself of oxygen, you don't need the plastic bag. Just put tape over the intake for the gas mask, and a strip of tape across where your vision is to accomplish the same thing. The plastic bag seems to be unnecessary fluff for the visual impact.
Some suggestions for things that have a higher chance of actually being used: 1. clearing malfunctions with only your support (weak) hand 2. learning to shoot while trying to disengage from someone who has ahold of you 3. pistol retention 4. pistol recovery and many, MANY more. But if you are bored doing things that you might actually need, or if you want to do something different for the camera, I suppose a plastic bag gets people's attention. |
