I can't belive these idiots! Didn't they learn that politician's kids don't get drafted or don't go into harms way? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24144-2003Jan7.html WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two leading House of Representatives Democrats called on Tuesday for bringing back the military draft, saying political leaders would be more wary of sending troops to Iraq if their children were going to help do the fighting. |

the nation must debate whether it should continue with a fighting force comprised disproportionately of people from low-income families and minorities. what incentive to spoiled rich kids have to serve? personal pride and a note on their resume but little else. they can make a ton more money in the private sector. for those of us that want civilian careers we can't afford being behind the curve by spending 4 years in the service of our country and leaving with few marketable skills. we need to spend the first few marketable years of our lives in our chosen career working and learning as much as we can. to top it off you are screwed in the service If you didn't go to Annapolis or West Point. |

Our children are already fighting, it is just that they VOLUNTEERED to serve. Fricking idiots! We have more service people than we need. Our technological ability to efficiently destroy targets and kill the enemy has allowed us to effectively wage war with fewer soldiers at risk. I would like to sponser a bill that would send ex-congressmen Democrats to the Russian front. |

Reps. Charles Rangel of New York and John Conyers of Michigan, both Korean War veterans, said the nation must debate whether it should continue with a fighting force comprised disproportionately of people from low-income families and minorities. Isn't it a volunteer army? What does disproportionality have to do with it? SO WHAT? More minorities are joining the armed forces, it was their choice. HOWEVER, I would like to see mandatory universal service like Israel has. I think it would lead to a more united country and one which is harder to kill in spirit and in body. I would happily have served after college if I knew that by buddies were right next to me, rather than at college getting a jump start on me. |
