[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I hate DUI checkpoints. (Page 1 of 3)

I was heading to my gf's apartment after spending the evening(5pm-1:30am) helping a friend fix his car because he was having some trouble and didn't have the money to pay a mechanic. I get off the interstate and about a mile down the road there is a huge DUI checkpoint at a 4-lane by 4-lane intersection, so I pull up and greet the officer and I have my license in my hand. He takes the license and looks at the tag and returns to my window and asks "where are you coming from tonight", I reply, "I was helping a friend fix his car". He looks at my license again and says "I'm going to ask you again, where are you coming from", I reply the same thing. He then asks if the license has my current address, I tell him it does and he walks away and returns with another officer. He asks me "where is this address" and I told him 3 times where it was and he keeps asking me.
By this point I am completely confused why these two officers want to know where this address is because it is only about 2-miles away. I'm trying to cooperate and the officers just keep quizing me, sounding more and more annoyed.
It turns out, they thought I was lying because I was headed away from the address but they never asked me where I was going or explained themselves.
(If that didn't make sense, I don't really care, it's my b-day and I'm drinking) |

I find it extremely annoying when I'm asked where I am coming from and where I am going. What business of theirs is it? I don't like it but usually checkpoints around here are done by the NCSHP, and they are VERY polite and professional. This was a local pd.

You guys are doing it wrong.
When I leave the bar I turn on the waze app on my phone so I know where the dui checkpoints are. Sometimes I get really close to one on purpose just to make a legal u turn and drive away... laughing and happy. The cross street I live near has one almost every single month. |

Got you beat. I had a thread on here a while back about a cop bitching me out for turning ON MY ROAD just before their checkpoint.
I had three officers run up screaming for me to kill the engine. When I did, I handed them my license. They started demanding to know why I was trying to avoid their roadblock. I tried to speak, but couldn't get a word out. Finally, after working all day with HS kids, and working a football game that night, my nerves gave way. I butted in and said "Officer... would you kindly look at the fucking green sign to your right, and then look at the address on my damned license???? I saw a glazed over look as he looked at the sign and my address about three times. He gave me my license back, and said... well, I hope you now know what to do if you come to a roadblock in the future. That did it for me. I looked at him and said.... "No... I don't really think I do. In fact, I am not sure if you do, either. Why don't you tell me... should I go through the roadblock, then make a U-Turn on the highway, come back through it, and THEN turn onto my road? Or should I simply turn on my road because I get to it? I'd really like to know what your instructions are." The [explicative removed] responded with "Have a nice night." Sadly, these were not local cops... this was MS Highway Patrol, Troop J. ETA: Found my thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1366885_Not_cop_bashing__but_WTF_sobriety_checkpoint_last_night___Question_for_LEOs_with_MSPAINT.html |
