It seems people can't seem to be around guns without someone doing something stupid yet you rarely hear about our Military personal accidentically shooting each other.  Granted, the US military made "Friendly fire" a very bad word and did what it could to reduce it in the wake of a few deadly friendly fire Apache and tank attacks that were widely reported during Desert Storm.  It is amazing our Military can shoot from moving Humvees and other vehicles, manuever around a fighing hole during a battle or simply come under attack while walking a road while being tired, cranky & generally underfed  while maintaining perfect trigger control and not muzzle sweeping the entire unit.  Plus, I assume they are multi tasking while manipulating their weapon (Mag swaps, communication, troop movement, etc.)
Is our military that well trained with small arms or is the US Military just  being very quiet about this?  I've been wondering about the actual numbers on this.

There's nothing "friendly" about friendly fire.....

For the people who actually use their weapons, there's plenty of training, so discipline isn't an issue.

It's the stupid fucks, that THINK they are combat arms, who usually end up flagging/shooting their buddies.

Takes a min to realize those are red tracers incoming

The .mil doesn't like to talk about blue on blue outside of the .mil.  It sucks ass to hear your kid/husband/dad, etc got offed by his buddy in an accident.  They try as hard as they can to call it enemy action.

I can say that when I was in leadership I spent a lot of time developing and reinforcing IFF  TTPs that would help preclude blue on blue fracticide. The better your TTPs the faster you can move on an objective. The faster you can effectively move the better you can kill.

I've heard quite a few stories of people getting shot at, shot, or shooting themselves accidentally while in the military.

Admittedly, all of these stories have been second hand.

Correct me if I am wrong, but friendly fire is not someone who doesn't exhibit trigger discipline, it is when there is faulty Intel.

Could happen because of a lot of things:  Poor trigger discipline, poor target identification, incorrectly positioning yourself on the battlefield, poor communication...

The enemy is anyone that will get you killed, no matter what side they are on.

An extension of Murphy's laws on the subject.

Incoming fire has the right of way.
Friendly fire, Isn't.

Army gunner from a passing convoy put several MK19 rounds into RPC back in 04. Almost killed the major I was working for.

Yeah.  In a gun sense I have to agree here.  Horrible/tragic accident at the least.

I have however, saw someone take friendly fire at "the trough" one time though.  I couldn't believe what just happened and just stood there frozen.

Happens often in .mil it seems. Two usmc incidents lately.  Frag grenade in UT. Guard shack shooting at Lejeune a couple months ago. My son was at that funeral and knew both involved.

Iraq 2007

One of the officers in the Battalion was clearing his pistol for dinner and shot inside the clearing barrel.  Next time I saw him he didn't have a pistol.

Not faulty intel but poor situational awareness.
