No, not body armor. I'm looking for some relatively cheap plates I can turn into hanging targets. I just got done with my Grendel build minus glass and want to start ringing steel.

AR500 and cheap, don't really go together
I make quite a few targets, last 4x8x3/8"  I bought was somewhere around $850-$900.00. then you have cutting and waste to add on.
then labor for some sort of frame work.

mine are made from 5/8 steel and they hold up well until I start shooting 30.06 at em.

I don't think he needs a 4x8 slab of AR500...

I just ordered mine from here. https://shootingtargets7.com/store/

Prices seem better than most and shipping is pretty good $12.83 for about 50lbs of plates. They even threw in a free target for me.

Call your local metal supplier, and ask him what it would cost. I have mine cut locally, and it doesn't break the bank. No freight, and they are usually done the same day.

Wouldn't even know where to start. Ask the welding shop?

Could be a start. Look for any metal fab/machine shops that sell metal.

Shootsteel.com or armorgeddon is where I got mine.   Both are excellent.

The guy could do a better job on explaining his pricing on the site.

Check your local metal shops. There's always end pieces and other "scrap" that they sell here for 25% off. AR500 plate isn't light and shipping is a bitch too.

For the locals:

jc steel

Every so often they run sales advertised on a few forums (highroad) and take about 25% off their prices

Can you cut AR500 with a oxy/acy torch? I've got acces to an entire armored vehicle and was wondering what it would take to cut it up to make my own targets.

A water jet is better otherwise it will compromise the target.

Oxy fuel will cut it fine. But your edges will lose some of the temper. Plasma would be better, water better yet.
