My old man used to rock those. He coached high school football for a number of years.

I wish I could find a couple of pairs. I keep threatening to show up to practice wearing them.

My dad's buddy, that's all he wore, I mean to social occasions, everywhere. Haven't seen him in a few years not sure if he still does.

I found a pair years ago and tried them out as part of a costume. They really were not the best. Lots of nut tuggage.
|

I remember a few of the football coaches having them in middle school. I think wind pants and track suits started getting more popular when I went to high school.

I've coached high school football for 14 years. If anyone on our staff had ever showed up with a pair of those, the laughter and ripping from fellow coaches alone would force them back into the locker room to change. I've never seen them. Was more of a 1970's thing, I think.
|
|
In Jr. High, some of our coaches wore them for practice. I think they were originally bought in the 70's. I was in Jr. High in the 90's
|
|
In 8th grade, 1978, one of the football coaches also taught PE. He wore those all day every day.
One day in PE he got into a physical fight with my friend Scooter. I don't recall why they were fighting but coach ended up throwing Scooter to the ground. Then told him to run 5 laps. Scooter got up, brushed himself off, walked over and kicked coach Fruend right square in the nuts. He must not have been wearing his cup 'cause he fell right over and writhed around for awhile. Scooter took off and ran the laps. I give coach Fruend credit though. He didn't report it to the principal. |

There's a photo somewhere of our current HC wearing those when he was an assistant 20 years ago. |

My high school football coach and gym teacher used to wear those daily. Every day. Even when it snowed and was around zero degrees he was in the gym rocking his grey coaches shorts.
This was cleveland ohio in the late 70's/early 80's. 25 years later, I was walking up stone mountain (in georgia) with the wife and kids and who do I see coming back down? Coach from high school. Still rocking the grey coaches shorts. |
