I am getting let go from my employer. It was agreed (between president of company, HR dwarf and myself) that when I was finished with my assignment I would be done with work, but be paid 3 months salary and benefits as severance (paid as if I still worked there but I dont have to show up). Basically they do not need my services for the rest of the year and cannot justify my full time services as an employee. They will ask me back on a consulting basis when needed.
I was supposed to be done a week ago, however my boss is dragging current project out. I have lined up consulting work that I have already had to turn down to finish my assignment at my employer, I should be finished now next week. Today my boss asked for some BS project recap which would keep me there longer and cause me to turn down consulting work I have committed to doing again. I dont know why he is dragging this out, all my work is well documented and the data is already easily available for him to see the recap data. Its like he does not want me to leave. I feel they have a hold over me with the way they worked the severance. Question is how do I "get both". I want out of there to consult and I want to get my severance. edit... thinking of billing my boss for my time at going rate of $200 per hour for anything beyond assignment |

| I drill oil wells for a living. Plenty of work out there. I am just done with working as an employee and want to be contract. If I am working more than 40-50 hrs per week I am getting paid that way. As an employee I am on call 24/7/365 and often work all the freaking time and ignore my kids and family. |
