15 year old top loading Whirlpool is about to bite the big one.

Not going to drop $2K on a washing machine.

I don't need steam, front loading or some odd ball color.

I just want something that is going to last without needing repaired once a year.

So what are your recommendations?

$100 craigslist.  They do the job.  Just make sure the guy on the phone speaks English.

My wife bought a high end set after we bought a house a few years ago.  Thought she was nuts.  I gotta say, I was impressed.  It made some old stuff look new!

Shouldn't you ask your husband since he is paying for it?

Do not get the water saver. Ours won't clean that well, we have to wash smaller amounts of laundry, and sometimes do multiple washes. It has stained  the Laundry too

Our is a Whirlpool Eco-friendly…….. Run Away.

Samsung front loader, works great. 4 yrs, not a single issue

Being able to wash comforters or sleeping bags has saved a lot of trouble for the s/o

Heh, if you do wash a comforter or sleeping bag in a top loader, make sure it isn't one of the newer ones without an agitator in the center and super high speed spin.

Super high speed spin, plus anything rubber impregnated = disaster waiting to happen.   Axe me how I knows.

Purchased new a High Point washer and dryer set in 1993.
Just replaced the dryer last month.  The washer works fine yet.

The dryer I just installed last month is a Samsung DE400EW.  I don't see it lasting 20 years.
Modern appliances are not built for longevity.
