About 25-30 years ago I read a Larry Niven book, "Oath of Fealty." In it were several futuristic technological breakthroughs. At the time, the most likely (to me) was the ability to control your computer with a radio link embedded in your brain. You could think a text messageto your computer, send it to another computer, and its owner could 'read' the message... almost like mental telepathy.

At the time I predicted, and was willing to bet, that it would be available-- FOR A PRICE-- by 2015. So far no one has taken the bet.

How close are we to this particular breakthrough?

I'm more interested in how far away we are from a realistic sex robot that doesn't just act like a 1970s motel vibrating bed.

I'm more concerned with the NSA, spammers and the radicals running the show trying to change my thought parrterns with it.

I'm not even a paranoid person.

There already exists mind controlled machinery.

The application I have seen it used for is prosthetics.

They are working on that right now.
There's parallel research that is suggesting uploading and downloading full memories.
