Found this guy in the front yard.

Coiled up a couple times when he saw me but then took off pretty quick.  So any experts know what kind of snake it is?

Either a Gopher Snake or a Corn Snake. Either way, it's a good snake. It'll keep mice, voles, moles out of your garden.

I was thinking a bull snake but I believe you are correct.

It was pretty small but kind of a surprise seeing it in the driveway.  First I've seen around the house in the 4 years I've lived here.

Looks like a bull snake. Had one in the garage this afternoon and three more around the place. Some are docile and some are hissing fighters. The docile ones will wrap around your arm and squeeze when you pick them up.

It's a rat snake.  Good snake to have around and harmless to you and your pets unless you keep rodents.  Rat snakes can tame out pretty easily too sometimes.  The males can get 4-5 feet long, the females can get as long as 7 feet or so.  They're bad ass rodent killing machines.

Yeah, I'm not a snake guy either but I like seeing the occasional garter snake in my yard.  They are pretty much harmless, but I think they are cool to look at.

On the west coast we call them gopher snakes,    not poisonous but they usually have a pretty bad attitude.   If you find one in some dried grass or leaves when the shake their tail it can sound quite a bit like a rattlesnake.

I didn't even look to see the location of the OP.  I stay as far away from the Left Coast as I possibly can.
