Found this guy in the front yard. Coiled up a couple times when he saw me but then took off pretty quick. So any experts know what kind of snake it is? http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o240/tstanfield12/5943a6d4-5a25-4a2b-8113-fb0257d013b8_zpsc29d3b7a.jpg Harmless Great Basin gopher snake (Pituophis catenifer deserticola) |

It was pretty small but kind of a surprise seeing it in the driveway. First I've seen around the house in the 4 years I've lived here. |

When they are big I call them bull snakes. Are they different species? |

Good snake to have around and harmless to you and your pets unless you keep rodents. Rat snakes can tame out pretty easily too sometimes. The males can get 4-5 feet long, the females can get as long as 7 feet or so. They're bad ass rodent killing machines. |

I don't "like" snakes... but seriously...WTF? Yeah, I'm not a snake guy either but I like seeing the occasional garter snake in my yard. They are pretty much harmless, but I think they are cool to look at. |

On the west coast we call them gopher snakes, not poisonous but they usually have a pretty bad attitude. If you find one in some dried grass or leaves when the shake their tail it can sound quite a bit like a rattlesnake. Quoted:

I stay as far away from the Left Coast as I possibly can. |
