Say what you want, but the dude is a badass and has my utmost respect. I just read a brief bio on him about his time in SFOD-D. This guy is tier mf'n zero.
I feel obligated to post this because I chuckle a bit when civilian range safety officer types are quick to criticize him about his techniques, weapons, instructional ability, weight, etc. This guy is a badass and his service record proves it. I would sincerely be honored to shake his hand one day. foxhound out

Only thing I've heard him bashed for was weight which is a piss poor thing to do. The guy has done shit no arfcommer will ever know about and yet the keyboard elite bravely stand against weight gain.

You mean the guy who made Grant Timberlake a Vickers Instructor, removed him after grant videotaped a student going through a shoot house while grant was supposed to be the instructor, and the video showed the student pointing a loaded gun at Grant, the later "re made" him an instructor? That guy? Oh and grant stated there was nothing wrong with being flagged with a loaded pistol by a student in an open enrollment class, nor was there anything wrong with running an inexperienced student through a shoot house while also running a camera. Basic safety violations by a vickers instructor are "Big boy rules". Course grant's website funneling a ton of business to vickers had nothing to do with it.

Aside from naming a specific website, which is a legitimate for-profit business, I didn't think he said anything out of line. I work on complex machines, I sometimes watch Spongebob, I hang out in GD most nights, and I don't know jack shit about gunfighting compared to a former delta member.

He's had a love-hate relationship with 1911s and has put his foot in his mouth to please his Glock and HK masters--only to come crying back to Wilson.
I dunno, when guys like him become brand hucksters and make blanket statements about entire gun types and families my eyes glaze over. It wasn't long ago when he was zig zagging the country and charging 2.5 grand to teach guys how to build their own 1911. I think most men like him, including my grandfather in law, can just be jackasses. |

I've trained with him, and it was superior instruction.
He does issue a lot of ribbing, but he takes it too. I immediately felt comfortable with him. Back in my day you gave a lot of shit to your buddies, and they dished it back. If you're not comfortable with that atmosphere, don't go. If you are, you'll be told tips and given training techniques that you'll keep for life. |

I was planning to take some classes with him, but after the shit he and his nut hugger brigade pulled with Doc Roberts I have no interest in dealing with any of them.
Sure he's got a hell of a resume, but John McCain spent 7 years in a bamboo cage getting poked with sticks and that hasn't stopped him from being an asshole. |

There was big incident last year over at TOS where Doc Roberts posted a positive review of a Hackathorn class, and Vickers, Grant, and Paul went apeshit on him, banned him from the forum and changed his member title to something disrespectful. There was a lot more to it than that, but I'm on an iPhone so don't feel like typing it out. Search the archives, there was a big thread on it. Vickers wasn't the main instigator, but he was involved enough that it was clear he approved of the whole thing. The fact he could have such a close relationship with such depraved people really cratered my respect for him. |
