| Am I the only one that thinks they look stupid and are impractical? You can haul less shit in them. I can't think of a good reason why I would want one. |
|
They are what they are, and a more honest variation for the City Rednecks and urban cowboys.
2 Passenger vehicle that can haul shit to the apartment, or pull a jet ski. 90% of the half tons on the road run around empty, and rarely pull anything. I gave my wife a Flare side to drive for a while. Kept her from borrowing the 3/4 ton. They have thier place. |

I think they're ugly, but they're not really impractical. The only space you lose is at the front/back of the wheel wells, and that space is practically useless anyways. The main bed space between the wheel wells is the same size as a regular bed. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Quoted: Yeah give me a straight side any day..look better and more practical. Step side trucks look awkward, especially this variety. And I drove a Tundra for a long time, love em ![]() http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/2964/tundra3.jpg |

Not a Ford fan but the Lightning is the only step side I would ever buy. |

If I had one I would need a trailer to tow behind it. My dad's was just like that one, except his was red. We called it Red Sonya - 300 straight six with a 3 speed plus overdrive. I wish I owned that truck today. |

Get what fits your needs. I am actually enjoying my regular cab short bed, not stepside though, ford f150. It is just a little 2wd that goes to work and can haul stuff with the tailgate down and it does lots of stuff just fine. If it was a stepside I would probably be happier. Most of the stuff I haul needs a solid straight side and that wheel well messes that up for me. One article I recall reading had a general motors pickup that was just a test idea vehicle. They took it to a construction site and it was pretty dang well recieved and the guys at the site asked gm when they would build it. Gm never built it. The vehicle was a pickup with a dually width pickup bed but only a single rear wheel on each side. The pickup bed had no wheel well intrustions and was the width of a regular pickup bed due to the dually fenders being out there for the single rear wheels in back. I would never want such a vehicle but you could certainly set up the bed pretty well if you had that setup. I do tend to like the looks of the stepside beds for certain years, I don't like a single wall pickup bed though because it shows dents really easily. Some of the modern stepside beds bolt onto older body styles as well. Overall my little shortbed pickup hauls most of what I want to haul and if I want to haul more I take the trailer. Heck, I use the back of my wrangler like a little pickup since I took out the carpet and backseat and right now have all the zippered windows out of the soft top for the year. getting ready to install a bikini top and try taking the doors off as well. |

Here are two stupid and impractical stepsides: http://i61.tinypic.com/2vvtm4k.jpg Speaking of generalizations, OP writes like a vagina. That 53 Chevy looks nice. If my vagina had eyes, that green abomination would make it cry. |

Off topic, but I hate driving around an 8' bed. Why? ...because it lengthens an already long crew cab - into rediculously long. And all personally owned trucks should be crew cabs by default IMO.
If I need to haul something that a 6' bed can't get it, I'll just haul it on a small trailer. Problem solved. |

What would a 1987 GMC Sierra Classic Stepside be worth? One owner, 57k miles, 2wd, tan, perfect condition? Not a single ding and the interior looks brand new.
I know of it sitting in an old guys garage. He only drives it twice a year up to a service station to have everything looked over and fluids changed. It is just a sharp looking truck. I would like to buy it from him for a cruiser. Maybe lower it a bit since its 2wd. |
