Most of you guys know me, who I am, and what I believe. I come here BOTH for the comeraderie of gun owners, and for healthy political and social debate. But I love a good "religious" debate too.

In the spirit of cooperation, and good will to teh members of this board, who I like very much,  I have toned down my religious rhetoric so as not to offend, much as the moderators have put the clams on porn posting.

So, here's my proposal -

I would like to open a political / social debate ONE TIME each week, that will be approached on my part from a religious perspective. I'm not interested in talking about how many angels can fit on teh the head of a pin, but in discussing relevant current events and political issues in a religious context.

I will label the thread appropriately, so that those who don't wish to wade into a religious discussion can "fly by" my thread.

All comments will be welcome, even those unflattering to religious people. religious people who get easily offended by such comments will be encouraged by me to "grow up."

I make this proposal as a show of good will to those who I consider my brothers "in arms."

What say you?? Is that acceptable???

Yep...Sounds good to me.

Might even be a little on the fun side too.

No probs here, if the thread is labeled accordingly.

I'm one of the ones who called for limiting the religious material, but I don't object to it.  I might even join in your threads if you promise not to pray for me or tell me you feel sorry for me.  You should be prepared, though, for one of the board pornmeisters to demand that he be permitted to post a clearly labeled T&A thread once a week.

Okay, I promise NOT to pray for you. Geeesh, its almost painful for me to even SAY that  [:D]

Seriously, a BIG problem with "religion" today, Baptist Christians included, is how condescending it is / they are. I admit that.

I have LITTLE PROBLEM with an appropriately labeled thread containing porn. I can avoid. While i do ahve a problem with porn in general as IMO opinion it degrades society and damages liberty (ultimately) IF appropriately labeled in thsi forum, you won't get any crocodile tears from me about it.

I think that would be very interesting, and I would like to participate in something like that too.  I think that labeling it (the topic) appropriately would help a lot too.

Amen!  I was raised Baptist and I came to believe (because that's what I was taught) that I had the true religion.  All others were weak and sinful.  I'm over that now, and can see the damage that this kind of intolerant teaching causes.

As long as the moderators don't mind the waste of bandwidth on non-firarm discussions, go for it.

That may be a productive idea Garandman.

I hope not, but it is of course possible, that my own religious views may have caused more harm than good at times.  I don't think so but I am willing to accept the fact that I could have.

If so that was not my intention.  Denomination does not matter.  An acknowledgement of and relationship with the Lord does.  Wherever you find that is not for me to judge.

As a Baptist Christian I am very strong in what I beleive.  But, if you guys knew me well you'd also know that I am as intense and as extreme in all my other views and beleifs on politics, social issues, morals, family, friends, race, RKBA, the NRA and the list goes on and on.

I am just a God-fearing, gun-loving, fishing, hunting, shooting, ATV-riding, 4x4 truck driving, dog loving, southern boy.  I love my God, my family, my friends and especially my guns.

Probably a lot like many of you folks.

Good idea GM.

Go for it.  I'll even wade in with the Pagan viewpoint from time to time.  'Long as the site doesn't turn into www.pulpit.com
I find your stance on porn interesting, since I tend to believe it's organized religion that degrades society and limits freedom.

Pagans are welcome, as long as you don't perform any human sacrifices  [:D]

I'll agree that FALSE religion shackles man and damages liberty.

However, IMO, TRUE religion frees a man to his highest levels of fulfillment. There is more to man than sinew and plasma. Embracing that immaterial part of our beings (and its Heavenly Authority) can bring unsurpassed joy to life.

Adults SHOULD be able to accomplish that little feat.

I'll TRY to start acting like an adult [:D] So far, I've been able to avoid that  [:D]

"Pagans are welcome, as long as you don't perform any human sacrifices"

Oooooo.....talk about stereotyping!  Okay, we'll be friends as long as you don't slap me in the head, yell "Heal!", and pass a collection plate.;)

Your discussions should get reak interesting. This fallen Catholic looks forward to it. When are you going to post the first one?

Kyle

P.S. I'm just glad that this discussion wasn't about priests suggesting cannibalism.

Well, I'll wade in on the "Against" side.  With the complaints about how slow the forum is since we moved to the new one, I'll oppose it on practical grounds first.  second, we have enough trouble with off-topic stuff without having a scheduled regular off-topic thread.  Take to Religions-R-Us.com or something.  My $.02.

TOUCHE!!!!!!!!!

"Animal" sacrifices, like Rosie, are widely accepted by many religious groups, and may be a point of consensus for ALL of us!!!!! [:D]

Anyway, there would be PLENTY of fat to boost the flames with a Rosie sacrifice!!!!

(Sorry, the old WC Fields line was just too tempting there)

EVERYONE is welcome. More opinions USUALLY mean better answers.

I have learned to stay away from religious discussions. They get VERY heated. As long as it stays civilized I'm in. Oh and don't say that you are going to pray for me either. It's like saying "you're wrong and I feel sorry for you."

I would glady accept Pentacosts into this discussion, as long as you don't start speaking in Latin tongues...I took part in that once, and it chilled me for a day and a half  [:D].

Oh and by the way, before you start thinking in my posts "why is this Jew talking preaching the faith of the gentiles"....I'm not Jewish.  It's just a nickname given to me quite a while ago that I've embraced, but I am in fact a Christian, non-denominational (aka Methodist).

I would love some civil, intellegent religious conversation here.  Everywhere else I go, I find mostly 14 year old bible-beater girls who think evolution is the ultimate tool of the devil, or immature junior high boys who think one of the band members of Korn is God....geez.

All in All, I'll be keeping my eyes out for your posts.  Let the games begin!
