Watch your step, it's spring time in the desert.  These were taken near Elko, Nevada  (Not my Pics)

eta...these pics were emailed to me today with a note detailing where the photo was taken.  I google "mojave green" as mentioned later in the thread and turns out, these are old ass pics taken years ago from somewhere in California.

Wife stepped within about 16 inches of a coiled and buzzing Mojave Green a couple of days ago.

Had her Glock, hesitated to shoot as with a couple dozen kids on hike.

I told her a Green that close, pretty much trumps Rule Four.

I was out opal hunting last weekend and came across a nest of babies.  Like any immature man, I picked up rocks and started throwing them at the snakes, ...until one of the rocks I picked up had another baby snake coiled under it.

That little guy would ruin your day.

I see them all the time, usually stretched out on the trails like sticks, warming themselves.

Geez snakes dont bother me but   NO
I was just at walmart and there was black snake sunning beside the car that was parked beside my motorcycle . I went to pick it up and it went into the rim so I waiting for it to stick its head out grabbed it a carried to the grass hill beside the parking lot , which got me a thumbs up from an old lady watching from her car . My wife was freaking out about it the whole time .

They're out.  I saw the nest I mentioned above, in Rats Nest Gulch in Owyhee county.

Turns out the pics in my op are old. lol

Ok, the picture was removed from the OP, but it was the same den of snakes. It was pointed out to that guy that this group of pictures has been around a while here

Regardless, kill em with fire. Either that or shoot a few in the head and cook them with fire.

You guys out in the desert get all the cool stuff!

We only see the more common stuff around here like common water snakes, garters and the black rat snakes.

I hatched out these 4 black rat snakes late last year from wild found eggs.  I released them back into the wild this week

Most likely so. Still I would not want to walk up on that. One lone timber rattler is enough to scare the crap out of a man. I would likely die if I ran up on a den of them.

This pic is mine from earlier today. I think this little brown came out too early. I saved him off of the gravel road, he was cold as shit and would barely move.
It was like 30 * out this morning. Brought him in the truck and he/she started to liven up a bit finally.

Those are prairie rattlesnakes according to my snake informant AZjeeper. If you're out early in the morning this time of year out west,it pays to watch your step.

My cat Peachie was out in the front yard Monday, acting all weird. Then I saw she had a big (4 ft. or so) black snake cornered at the base of a big maple tree. I went and grabbed Peachie and got her the hell out of there. That snake was just too big for her to mess with.

Almost stepped on one out in the Pawnee Grasslands in CO - Miles from the nearest hospital.

Funny how I never saw a rattler before, but that sound was almost instinctual telling me to STOP. I was 5 feet from it.

It would almost make me feel better if the ones I ran into acted like that one. I've picked up several (with a stick) and only one has ever even rattled at me. That one didn't really get into striking position and only rattled after I set it down.

If you have time to pull your gun, aim and fire when within a rattler's strike range you have time to walk away. Shoot them if you want, but don't call it self defense. Call it killing snakes.

Looks like a red bellied snake. A big one is about 18" long and could just about crawl through the outer tube of a Bic pen. Here's the biggest one I've ever caught. I was able to close my hand and completely enclose it, and it still had room to move around. " />
