Been around for several years now. I'm kinda surprised you're just now seeing this. When was the last time you renewed your license? You must have just slipped in before implementation last time. You only have to do it once, and I had everything I needed within easy grasp. Having a valid passport helped. I think I just needed that, my birth certificate, and a couple of utility bills. |

I renewed my Texas DL in person on Thursday. I checked the website and they said I would need my passport, a credit card bill, and my birth certificate to renew. I gathered it at and stood in line and........no one asked for shit. "That will be $33." no shit? they sent me a thing in the mail telling me to bring 87 forms of ID......i might as well bring it all. would hate to wait in line all day and have to come back. |

Quoted: WTF do they need a birth certificate for if you have a US Passport? I don't have my Birth Certificate...and was born abroad as a US citizen. What else can I bring to these things? OP, is it bring "all" of those things on a list, or one or two of those things from a list? Passport is preferred over a birth certificate as a valid proof of id and citizenship. BTW, which state? Some states have "enhanced ID's" which serve as evidence of being a US citizen for re-entry in to the US. However this is the direction we are going. Thanks all of you illegal aliens. Your typical US citizen will not have much issue getting these docs. Sounds like your state has had enough and is cleaning house. Or making them have one and citizens another. As for FreeFloater, you should have a/get a certificate of US citizen born abroad. Contact US Department of State. This would have been done already by your parents. Form FS-240 or DS- something something. Lets hope there are no surprises. It's happened. |

Oh, wait, I just remembered. It was either a passport or a birth certificate. I brought my passport. The other doc I needed was my So-So Security card. |

I gathered it at and stood in line and........no one asked for shit. "That will be $33." When I lived in Texas and tried to get a TX license (I had a TN license) i was denied. 1. My current address was different from my vehicle registration address 2. Utility bill wasn't good enough for proof of residence, they wanted a lease with my name on it. 3. Wife whose name was on lease (she signed the paperwork a few days before I left the old address) was standing there, but her word I lived with her wasn't good enough (even though the utility bill with my name matched the leases address.) |

You do realize that it's possible to get into secure facilities with less ID than that don't you? Pretty fucking stupid if you ask me, first they insist I pay them to exercise my right to travel and associate as I please, then they decide that's not good enough and I have to jump through all these extra hoops. |

I hope they don't change how they do that here in Arizona. Here, they are good until you turn 65. You do have to go in every 12 years to get a new photo so you have a semi-current picture and take eye exam to prove you haven't gone blind. Try to get on a commercial passenger plane after July 2016 without one (Real ID compliant photo ID) |

Quoted: I don't really get some of the responses in this thread. People bitch that illegals are being given DLs, then they bitch when more stringent proof of legal residency is required. |

Don't expect rational arguments from this crowd. Pretty sure one of them was in line when I got mine yesterday. |

Perhaps they actually ask for that stuff if you are applying for a new license or are mexican, but they didn't ask me for shit. They did take my fingerprints electronically. Maybe that takes the place of all that other stuff? Their website doesn't say that, though. It goes through this long list of stuff you need and says you must have it, period. eta: Go on a tuesday, wednesday, or thursday right when they open at 8am. You will not have to wait long. I was in and out in like 20 minutes. |
