I took that one sometime in May, 1986.

I then took the following oath:

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter; So help me God."

...on 01JUL87, 29MAY91, and at least three times thereafter.

...and I meant it EACH TIME...

Well...I took this one in 1964, 1966 and 1972:

I, __________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Then this one in 1981 and a few times after that before finally retiring in '92:

I, __________, having been appointed a (Rank) in the United States Navy, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear truth faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter, so help me God.

I know...some guys are just gluttons for punishment.   [BD]

During one of my tours, we had a pretty happy ship and several of my men ended up re-enlisting.  I got pretty good at giving the oath to my men from memory.  I think they liked that...or was it the fat re-enlistment bonus check they were smiling about?  [;D]

I'm somewhat familiar with that area. That was when Jackson High was mostly white and hispanic. My ex-wife graduated Jackson High and then went back to teach there after graduating college.
